So relics are just better, normal magical items? I guess that sounds OK. I still worry that someday down the line we'll be playing high level characters and the relics will be obsolete, but we can worry about that if the world doesn't end next year.

As an owner of an artifact, affecting only one person, I guess I have dog in this discussion. Effectively I double my attacking ability with a dancing sword and gain a HOP effect, but other than that it is a +2 Mithral sword. It is a great sword to have soul bound to me. I begrudge no one who has a group affecting artifact. Why should I? TD is not a competition. URs and upcoming relics are great. Increased levels and Purped parties are a part of the game now,but none of that makes any difference if you can't solve puzzles or slide or cooperate with your party.

If one person has two artifacts or three or none, how does that affect me and the enjoyment of TD?

I covet sliding like Raven, or solving puzzles like Gary or George, or thinking through strategies like Kim. Yes, we had two artifacts when Gary, Raven, and I pulled off the Trio Gambit and slew Smoak, but the artifacts played second fiddle to strategy, and sliding skill, and willingness to sacrifice some good tokens.

Jeff can provide whatever tokens he wants to enhance an individual's enjoyment of TD, but I don't think they will replace friendship, cooperation, puzzle solving abilities, and sliding skill.

Just my opinion--I love Widseth's Dancing Sword, but it has a deeper special meaning to me over and above TD.

Out of curiosity, would this new relic idea still be soulbound? I felt that the soulbound property worked well for artifacts where the powers could be customized to an individual's style of play. However, as a collector who equips a full group (quite possibly an extreme minority I admit) it seems quite limiting to have such a specific item be soulbound. Not to mention it might get harder and harder to keep track of. The coaches are already frantic enough as it is.

That sums up my position better than I could have said.

Two ideas for relics I wanted to throw out there.

1) How about alternate, slightly stronger, or even combined versions of set items for relics? Like +3 Celestial Mace (for the clerics), +2 Dragonscale Armor, or Mithral Crown of Might (+1 to hit and +2 to damage in melee and +1 to AC, counts for both sets).

2) How about randomized relics? I was thinking Diablo style, where the winner of the relic picks an item type (longsword, chainmail, ring, etc.) and then rolls for a prefix and suffix off a set of tables. Or if there is resistance, roll three times and then choose one. I this captures the old 'roll for treasure' feel.

I love this idea (specifically the "combined" items). I'd be going after a Mithral Crown of Might in a heartbeat.

yeah. i figure a dash from each artifact from 2009. :cheer:

i did have a thought though...could a recipe token be used to remove the bad side effects from an existing artifact?

You guys have some great ideas here. PLEASE bring them up after Gen Con Indy when it is time to hash this out.

We will make the final two Artifacts be usable by a group.

Thanks all!
