TOPIC: Destruction of Ioun Stones - SPOILER

<br />One wand of MM = 30 points of damage, as long as the mage can do the chart well, she can put on the last 11.  Other than that I say hit Booth 1005 while at con and pick up a few scrolls or wands to hedge your bets.<br />

Its safe to say that the mage alone will not be able to do it, they will need some help.

<br /><br />This is what I've been saying. 

Does a MM make any noise?  Does the Ring of the Ram make any noise?  As far as I know the stone is not empathetically connected to Smoak, so the stone itself wouldn't/couldn't alert him.  It has no intelligence.  I think you could get at least 2 rounds off before he would wake.  I think attacking with weapons would make a commotion, as the sling bullet accidently misses the stone and hits Smoak type of thing, but with only spells a party might get away with it.  Who knows until we get there?<br />  <br />

How are people getting the idea that attacking isn't going to wake up the dragon?<br />I can't see how attacking the ioun stone won't automatically wake him up.

Did anyone get the impression that doing things out of the box is going to be difficult because both parties are going to be attacking the dragon at the same time? I don't mean that they affect each other's success, but some of Jeff's comments sounded to me like one party can't start fighting until the other is ready (hence all the coach room stat work so the buffed out parties don't slow down the ones who are not).  If that is the case, it might be hard for one party to start attacking the dragon while for the other party it is still asleep.

<br /><br />For this reason alone I am convinced that we cannot attack the stone or dragon, or do anything else for 1 round, before the dragon is awake.  In other words, it's futile to plan on destroying the Stone before Smoak wakes up.  Get your hits in on both while you have a chance.
