TOPIC: Trade Item Question

Re: Trade Item Question 13 years 11 months ago #13

I have been told I get to make a new trade item next year (if there is space) so I will file clothing as one of the things on the list.

Sometimes people send me things like boots, and I will take them if they are not a predominant portion of the count, but I just want to make sure people do not get mad at me later if I come up with a clothing trade token and they have sent me all the items they could have traded for it.

Dave
I would love to see both potions and clothing have trade items. Ammo is another one that seems to pile up. In general, I think people melee more often than ranged which leaves the ammo to pile up.

I'd like to see clothing and possibly rings and amulets as trade items.

However, I disagree with potions and ammo being convertible to a trade item. Consumables like that are built to be used. I understand that most token collectors probably have more ammo and potions than they would ever be able to use, but it just doesn't seem to fit the flavor of the trade item system to allow for those to be burned off.

I don't know the how feasible it would be to do this, but a solution to the ammo/potion pile up could be the addition of a standardized combo items that are available every year. For example, 25 units of arrows could get you a +2 Keen Arrow (crits on 19-20). Another example could be 25 units of potion gets you a Potion of Cure Light Wounds (5 HP). I realize that this has potential to spiral out of control and that it increases the load on the already overburdened TD staff, but it could be a neat addition.

Otherwise, I'd say if you have too many potions or too much ammo, donate it to the token poor; that's what I intend to do.

Lore tokens are an interesting dilemma. I'm not sure if there should be a trade item for them, unless it is something like an Ancient Tome or the like.

Another option could be to use them like rumor tokens. So, you get to have the pre-Con fun that is the Lore system and still have an outlet to turn them in. The conversion could be something like 25 Lore for a Minor Rumor, 50 Lore for a Medium Rumor, and 75 Lore for a Major Rumor. As for the rumors, those could be information held back from the pre-Con Lore quest.

The other option that doesn't mitigate the redundant Lore tokens, but does extend their life is to include the Lore codes from previous years in any future Lore quests. This adds a lot of complexity to the Lore system and would severely disadvantage newer players, but could be a cool addition for veterans.

I had been thinking about that too - if it isn't feasible for TD to print a new set of Lore Tokens every year, they could just reuse these codes for future years.

What about giving the Lore tokens an in-game value of 5 GP? That still puts them at the bottom of the common token ladder, but at least it gives people an obvious solution to what to do with them. Future sets could print the value of the token on them.

Now, that all depends on if there were enough made to unbalance the economy, but I suspect a small wave of 5GP tokens is not going to upset the economy too much.

I would like to see Potions (and holy water), and maybe clothing as trade items. I think it makes great sense for potions to be a trade item to make something since that is where a lot of the "magic" coems from in other game play for these items. For instance, it makes sense that to make a cloak of fire resistance you would include, as part of the items needed, 5 potions of fire resistance, etc.

I think the lore tokens need to be able to be turned into something!!!!!!

Whether it's a trade item, GP, or rumors. I don't care. Please, just something!!!

In general, I believe there isn't a big need for items which are easly consumable (food, potions, ammo) to be made into a trade item.

Clothing or miscellaneous items would also make a good trade item.
What kind of numbers are we talking about, in terms of extra lore tokens (assuming most would want to keep one full set)?

Just trying to get an idea...
