TOPIC: Item Sets and "used" question

Item Sets and "used" question 13 years 10 months ago #1

(let me preface this by saying I have no mithral tokens)

If a character is wearing two pieces of the mithral set, and has the mithral sword with him (and has been using it as his weapon) is he still protected by the set effect (1/2 DragonBreath) while he shoots his bow? Another way to ask: what exactly does it mean to be "used"? Is having the sword with you, on your sheet enough? Or does it need to be in your hand?

Just wonderin',

P
That is an excellent question! I re-checked the token guide because I thought I remembered a reference to "wielding" the sword, but the current guide just says "When three of the Mithral items are used together...."

I certainly hope we can get the set bonus in the scenario you described.

Paging Mr. Radtke. ;)
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?

but then will you also allow the bonus if someone has the mithral sword on them, but is weilding a different melee weapon? and if not, what is the difference?

and hey, while we're at it; what about a ranger using TWO mithral swords. can we get the 5-item set bonus this year? :) any ideas what that bonus will be?

Used is used. Sitting in a backpack isn't. That will certainly be the ruling given how many sets some of us carry around.

I wonder, though... say a person wearing the Cap, the Gloves and using the sword were to be caught climbing a rope (for example) while someone breathed on him. (Maybe he was trying to tie the Dragons mouth shut or something silly... :O) Would that character not get the set bonus because both hands were otherwise occupied?

A related question: how many hands does it take to use a sling? ;)
The weapon tokens have a hand icon on them to indicate if they are one handed or two handed. It should be at the bottom of the token.

The sling is a one-handed weapon, per the token. I'd think you'd need to use the other hand to put the rock/bullets into the sling, but the token doesn't reflect that.

You must be actively using all three, so no you would not get the bonus (in this case) when you put the sword away and use a bow.

Dave

Please clarify the ranger question. I would argue that two mithral swords does not count towards a set bonus as two items.

Aww, then how are we ever going to get that super special 6 item set bonus? =D

well, if you make an artifact, you could see what jeff says about it being a "celestial mithral-dragonscale heart command ring of might"

Correct, the use of two mithral swords does not constitute two of the three mithral items for the set effect. Think of each as having a piece of the magic, two of the same will not get you the whole puzzle...
