TOPIC: Option to get gold instead of treasure draw

Option to get gold instead of treasure draw 14 years 7 months ago #1

With the new treasure draw system, I think there are more opportunities to enhance the treasure reward system but without creating a lot of work and overhead. When the treasure was done in the dungeon, it was just too hard to do anything more complex than a random draw and even that had problems.

How about allowing players to turn in their treasure token and have the option of getting a "Treasure Chest" token worth about as much as an average uncommon gold instead of pulling a random token? It would have a picture of a treasure chest with coins and gems and a printed gp value like other TD money tokens. This represents the pile of money D&D players come to expect getting from beating a dungeon.

The nice thing about this is that newer players can guarantee they get something at the end of the dungeon that they can probably then go to a player trader and buy something with. This starts them off getting used to trading. Also, with more players getting gold at the end of the run, people who regularly trade will have more incentive to hang out and trade because there will be more people looking to spend it.

I don't think this would artificially inject enough gold into the TD economy to drive down gold values, especially since people will still want to do treasure draws for rares and trophy tokens. This just gives players a chance to make sure they get something valuable from their run. If they get 3 treasure tokens, they can get 1 Treasure Chest and then still take a couple of random draws.

Interesting idea. How about a separate box with a random draw of gold or gold value item tokens?

The random gold chest might be neat. And it might be a good use for the gold that Dave Radtke takes in.

Even if TD is not interested in this idea, I would gladly buy treasure draws for gold. I had not realized anyone would want to give up a chance to get a red or purple or ingredient. What do you think would be a fair price?
It was an idea of mine [likely not original] to have the option to buy treasure draws for gold from TD for perhaps 250 gold. This would add a use for gold and thusly additional value.

Not that I would do it, but if I was a new player with just my starting 10 tokens, it might be worth if it was enough gold to trade for an uncommon weapon and armor. However, I kept getting asked by new players "What do we do with gold?" so giving them an option to get gold or sell thier treasure draw for gold may not make any sense to them. This idea may only work with experienced players, and those were not the target for this idea.

Now, Dis Bee Leaf's idea is similar and might be easier to manage. Doesn't seem there would be any harm in having a third box to draw from that was only gold, much of which could be recycled. To make it really fun, mix in the purps with it like the other boxes.

What is happening to all that gold that TD gets for the Auctions and Combos? This might be a way to add options without expense, though I would think the average pull should be around 50 gold.

Or maybe mix in some Reserve Bars, instead of standard Purps.
I would not drop a treasure pull for GP for less than 100GP...and if I really think about it without pains distracting me...I might not sell one for less than 200GP.

Treasure pulls are AWESOME! (Except when you get uncommons...I thought Jeff promised no uncommons...)

Uncommons? You were very lucky, my groups pulled at least 6 commons (out of 79). I thought this was one of the few weak points of the TD experience this year.

I love rare treasure just as much as the next person, but if you put too many rares in the treasure box then when do the rare tokens stop being rare?

Kim

At True Realm perhaps. With all the runs I did, I got like 40-50 treasure pulls. Ending up totally overdosing on 2009 rares. ::sighs::
