I think it's speculative buying. People are hoping that these are going to become MTG Power 9 rare in the next few years, and the $70 now will turn into $700 in 5-10 years time.

I hope they're right. But, for me, it's way too much of a gamble.

If they want to speculate they should be buying crude oil. This sort of thing is just insanity. The future of TD sitll seems sorta precarious to me seeing how much sponsership it needs. That means at any point this whole thing could go down the toilet if wizards gencon or whatever decided to pull out.

I douht that GenCon will pull out any time soon, It make a ton of money for them. Wizards, I don't know, but I bet if it keeps money flowing they won't either.
Its funny how something that takes multiple days to set up comes down in a few hours...

we've been constantly told that TD is a net loss or breakeven at best and that's WITH sponsership. The only way gencon is making money is if a lot of people who otherwise wouldn't be going to gencon do for the sole reason of true dungeon. I dunno that that's the case yet, and it would have to be subtracted from the amount they've put in for sponsering the event in the first plac ebefore you could count it as true profit.

I know I can't speak for others, but True Dungeon is the only reason _I_ go to GenCon. And because I go, my husband comes too. And since the pair of us go to GenCon, a pair of friends who used to be Origins regulars are now doing GenCon with us instead. Okay, that's only 4 people out of thousands and thousands.

But the fact is, GenCon is willing to put money up front for COOL stuff, like TD. That makes Gen Con a COOL con in my books. That's why we save our gaming budget pretty much year-round to blow at GenCon in the summer. I'd rather support WotC and Pete Adkison and even the city of Indianapolis' economy with my dollars, than places like Warp One Comics* in Edmonton.

(*Aside: Why is Warp One not cool? See what Captain Malcom Reynolds has to say about it. This is the difference between "being in it for the money" and "being in it for the fans")

To me, the tokens are for sentimental value mainly. I collect them for the joy of collecting, and to help out TD as much as I can. I don't know why people are speculating about a money market, but if they purchase the tokens for that reason, I imagine that they are missing out a great deal on what the experience of supporting an organization that you care about is all about. Seems kinda sad to me, but money is all that matters to some people, and hobbies turn into a "stock market for geeks" scenario.

I don't really care if they have monetary value. What matters is that the tokens, and True Dungeon, matter to me. :)

I personally purchased tokens to play TD with. To "hopefully" keep myself alive! As it turns out, I know have about 40 tokens, (after purchasing about 160) left. I sold/traded the rest away in the TD shops for some "very rare" equipment that was proving impossible to trade for otherwise.

Now that I have all but "ONE" token I wanted, I'm pretty much done trading/buying. *shrug* I did trade for a couple items that I don't necessarily need... if the time comes, I'll use those to get the one token I still really want. :)

So, (apologies in advance for asking this) is there an estimated timeline to expect the tokens by? 2 weeks? A month? SoCal? Just curious what the timeframe of these glorious volunteers looks like. ;)

What can I say? I'm FIENDING for token bags. I can feel the need devour my soul...inch by painful inch...

I was able to find what I wanted using the "Token List" button that
appears under everyone's avi.

That's how I got my 1/2 Plate and MW Bard Instrument anyway...

To me Token double as parmesan cheese for my pizzas and occasionally

an excellent substitute for blow when I can't grind up the character sheets

of the falllen in call of cthulu games(which rarely run out).

The powers that be (that would BE Jeff) tell me that I should have token bags to ship to our wonderful customers in about a week. In "Jeff-speak" that translates to me as 10/17. Once I know for sure (ie...I've been stuffing bags all day and night :) ) I'll post and let you know for sure.

Thanks for the orders and for being so patient.

I'll post the exact date as soon as I know it!
