First of all, rock on for you guys. A dungeon crawl is one of the staples of gaming and when you play LARP you really can't do that much...
*Unless you take the time and effort, as you have, to prep a dungeon or find real caves/tunnels and prep those... Which I'm working on but it's hard to do when there's not a lot of real caves/tunnels and the Mundanes in the area...*

Second -- Costumes? Yea or nay? Seeing as I play a bard/thief in our LARPs I have the outfits and I know many of us will be attending GenCon with them in the trunk...

Third -- Ever consider combat in a different way, ala foam/baffee weapons rather than this 'board' thing I've read about?

Okay, so 1. isn't a question, but 2 and 3 are. Hope to see you guys at GenCon Socali. :)

Constance

P.S. Any Xarians disregard my comment about the caves. ;)

Edit:
I hunted around the website for a little trying to find more clear-cut 'rules' and guidlines, but it wasn't very clear. Maybe you should put something up that's easier to find for new people such as yours truly. Or are you with-holding that for copyright reasons, which I can understand. :)

Most players don't wear costumes, but you can certainly do so if you wish.

There is just too big a downside with foam weapons for us to use it.

Thanks for the heads up. We will do a permanent "New to TD?" section on the home page...when I get time. Thanks for the comments.

Yeah, a baffee weapon in the hands of an inexperienced person can be very hazardous to anyone's health. Can't fault you there. :)

Thanks for the quick reply. Again, major kudos to you guys for pulling off a stample of the fantasy gaming experience in a rocking way.

Costumes are excellent. Even just a little bit. Personally, I've gone in twice as the rogue, and the only bit of costuming I have is a dark green cloak. It's all I need to blend into the darkness.

As for weapons and other props. I suggest against them as they'll do little more than get in the way. When you're in combat, you won't be able to act out your combat like you do in LARP, you're too busy at the shuffle board.

So I learned!
I wasn't feeling well so I went in basic gamer black and a trenchcoat.
Perhaps next year I'll come in my bard's costume-- mostly comfy Faire clothing. :)
And yes, no weapons needed, which was nice, even though my prop sword is very very pretty.
