Welcome to the TD forums.

As far as which con, there are 4 con currently that True Dungeon is at.

www.truedungeon.com/upcoming-events
Origins has already happened this year.

Gen Con is next up those tickets are sold out there are folks here on the forums looking for people to join them.

Which con you can make it to though really depends on you. Distance, cost and such.

Welcome, if you decide to give TD a try your in for a treat.

If your looking for a place to start (and happen to be going to gen-con) there is an event called TD 101 that could be a good place to start (but honestly I recommend just grabbing an event ticket and jumping right in).

Welcome! Gen Con is the hardest to get to, the event tickets and hotels sell out right away. I usually tell friends, if you want to go to Gen Con it's best to decide that in early January.

Gamehole Con is a great option if you can make it to that. Badge registration just opened and event tickets for TD are on 7/28. There is a TD 101 event happening there too, if you are interested. But you can certainly just buy a ticket for any/all of the dungeons and simply show up. The event includes 24 minutes of coaching and 12 minutes of combat training to teach the basics.
Classes Played: Barbarian (65 times), Monk (56), Ranger (33), Rogue (25), Cleric (21), Fighter (13), Druid (12), Paladin (11), Dwarf Fighter (10), Bard (7), Elf Wizard (2), Wizard (2)

Welcome to the community, I would recommend starting off at one of the smaller conventions if possible as there is far more availability to get into runs. There are very often people doing "newbie runs" although I'm not sure if any of those have any space left at this time, but I do know that Kirk was running one this year if you wanna scan the forums for his post.

Welcome. As many have suggested a convention other than GenCon might be easier to find tickets for Gamehole Con, PAX South or Origins as those tickets might be easier to get, both to the convention and the event tickets. Gamehole Con is quite small and very friendly, but the dungeons have been the same size in the past.

As for what to do, go 20 - 30 minutes early, and know what class you want to try, read the resources linked on the forums, the class cards are amazing and describe in part what you'll be doing as those characters. The Players Handbook linked in the resources section also has lots of information.

Once you've devoured all the information you want to read, and you have tickets, ask more questions, and find folks with tokens for trade, especially if you have a class in mind, we'll help you out.

If you are attending Gen Con, you should try to go to a True Dungeon 101, this fun class will give you a sense of what will go on.

The sessions show up as "sold out" - but they are free seminars and Gen Con doesn't collect tickets for these, so just show up:

Thursday at 1:
www.gencon.com/events/134242

Thursday at 6:
www.gencon.com/events/134245

Friday at 10:
www.gencon.com/events/134248

Overall, you can show up cold knowing nothing and it will be fine, everything you need to know will be explained.

If you like power gaming and optimizing, then you should know that many of the mechanics of the game are similar to D&D, your will get a character card with typical D&D class (e.g. Barbarian, Bard, Ranger, Rogue, Wizard): truedungeon.com/resources/item/49-character-class-cards

Your main stats for the dungeon (melee and ranged to-hit and damage, saving throws, AC) are recorded on a party card by a coach before the game.

Equipment in the form of tokens is how you can improve your character beyond these basic ones, following normal D&D rules (e.g. a +1 sword will give you +1 to hit, boots that grant +2 to DEX will grant +1 to AC, ranged to-hit, and Reflex saves).
