If you were a collector would you want to spend one just to get the sub race card?

I'd rather it last for as long as I have the business card. Show one in coaching, adjust the party card accordingly, and be on your way. There are plastic cards out there now that are pretty durable and could last from year to year. Downside is I could see someone counterfeiting the cards. Maybe numbered? Limited run while they last? *shrug* Heck, maybe they could be actual tokens with the bonuses on them or a QR code that lets you pull up the stats. Point being, give me something that lasts beyond the con and is an option I can choose to use or not.

The best exchanges have been when you turned in a Special for a UR token or better. If TPTB don't want to do that, then offering collectible subtypes that can be used year after year would be acceptable in my mind.

Going that route, I'd recommend reprinting the Special every three years or so to help keep them down in price while allowing new players the opportunity to unlock something cool for their character. Of course, if they're on a token then that could be a cool route to go and let the Specials be flat exchangeable for them when they're available.

Unlimited usage in perpetuity is TOO OVERPOWERED. Not even RoSP is unlimited usage.

In light of all the tokens that are unlimited usage in perpetuity, I completely disagree.

And I would suggest that RoSP should be useable more than once per year, but the fact that the RoSP confers bonuses in and of itself beyond the alternate classes plus combos with other tokens to unlock other permanent bonuses with unlimited usage in perpetuity makes that particular pill easier to swallow.

Also, you don't surrender the RoSP to play the alternate class.

Subtypes have been weak one-time-only effects that aren't worth turning in a potentially $200 token for. Give me those weak effects as a permanent collectible choice I can invoke before an adventure and you have something there.

I think it would depend on what they did. A unicorn race card that granted immunity to fear caused by energy drinks for example would only be so useful. Might be fun to have for RP though.

That said I dont think cards should be permanent. Or maybe the race could be permanent but the power only affects certain years (like the outdoor tokens).

Anyway I'm more just trying to drill down on what would be needed to get people to use up they're remaining runestones/specials. I haven't seen one pass through my coaching room in a couple years so I suspect people are hoarding their last few for something special (I know I am).

There was after all a time before the runestone when their was a desire on the part of TPTB to get the last few UR specials out of circulation that resulted in a couple years of really really good effects. Just saying.

I suspect many people holding on to UR Specials (other than for completing a collection) are waiting for "gives me a Mithral Coin of Fate" or similar level of effect.

The thing I'm trying to recall... I think back when those super-good effects happened, the effects of the variable effects tokens didn't get announced ahead of time. You had to actually turn one in to learn what it did. I thought we started getting those announced ahead of time just 3-4 years ago? Or am I mis-remembering?

The announcements also make for character generators available at conventions. If it is an unannounced benefit, people won’t have up to date character sheets in the coaching room.

Well, if AoW is ever determined by a die roll again, that cant be pre-gen anyway.

As TPTB have been quiet for some time, are these effects to be the final versions?

The effects are not set in stone at this point.

Just in case it appeared I was suggesting we go back to having them be unannounced, that wasn't my intent at all. I think they should be announced ahead of time, and should not have a randomly determined effect in the coaching rooms (unless all the random effects have no impact to party card). I like the character generators to be able to actually build the full character.

I might use a special if doing true horde or something to heal the party if we were against the wall or something but that's about it, since it isn't a ring I don't have to equip it.

Well, i support AoW being unannounced dice rolls. Unannounced is crazy fun & dice rolls are chaotic...Eris likes chaos.

To be fair, with the golden apple in my parties, a random die roll for everyone is probably easier than half the group trying to add 2 amulets and remove 2 charms because they forgot or never knew they would get a slotless AoW effect.

If the majority of people using the AoW effect in a given year are primarily "people that ran with Kent" that may be valid.

Honestly speaking as a coach, rolling the AoW dice in the coaching room has never been an issue in terms of time.
