Matt has a great point. We've basically gone from something that was very powerful to something that doesn't even hold it's weight taking-up a slot. The double nerfing is just too much. How about allowing the damage absorption TWICE per game?


There is currently a figurine that does this effect, for only 2 classes, 1/game, at UR.

Now we have a cloak that can do it for every class.

As a bonus the cloak gives +1 Saves.

Would it be better at +2, of course.

Would it be too good? Maybe. The avoid a hit power is really, really good.

If it were +2 saves and 50/50 avoid a hit, that might be right, but it would slow down combat.

I'm not sure what the right answer is. Just some observations.

Matt, help me understand. You are comparing the current errata Shadowskin (+1 saves, and absorb 1 Melee or Missile 1/game) to a +2 Cloak of Resistance and saying the +2 Cloak of Resistance is better?

He could be comparing to the new proposed rare cloak of +3 saves but take 2 damage.

In a vacuum the avoid 1 hit of my choice is better, however seems at hardcore/grind (where i mostly play anymore) I've lost more hp and bad stuff happen to blown saves. At that point i rather have the consistency of better saves which in long run i believe be more protective.

You've seen my build, my saves to begin with are mediocre due to penalty of non relic redoubt set. I own what i consider nice UR+ plus but not relic/legendary/eldritch build.
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven

I see your point. Your build suffers from saves and the mitigating a hit isn't really valuable to you (hence the original Shadowskin isn't really a value either).

If you can spare the HP then use the new +3 Rare (with a -2 damage) is great for you. I probably wouldn't wear it in grind and instead go for +2 saves. Get the new Bead for another +2 and you are net +4 saves from where you are today without giving much up (since the Shadowskin isn't really ideal for you now). Trade in your Shadowskin for something more useful or keep it and wait for a Charm of Brooching reprint.

With the bead it sits i'll be better than a year ago but you prove my point that functionally a rare is better than the UR. I'll admit my bias as i don't like once a game/dungeon dungeon abilities for myself as i forget/don't use enough to remember, see lamps which I forget to use them more than not.

Original shadowskin as written i used enough to remember it as a 'always on' as nearly once a room it saw use, especially since i taunt with dwarf or guard if i'm playing pally.

I agree for you in this case the Rare is better than an UR. For others it isn't.

That is why there are so many passionate discussions and why TPTB have such a challenge; everyone's build and play style is different and whether a token is balanced is based upon their personal situation.

I hope not actually. I think +2 saves and preventing a hit is a lot more powerful than the +3 Saves from the Greater Cloak and Dougal's. +1 seems more appropriate. Although I'd be OK with +2 AC and preventing the hit.

Minimally, it should be this. Using twice per dungeon and removing any save bonus would be my preference.
