I concur this would be a good intermediate approach because it can be written in the module and easily retracted if it caused an issue.

I THOT time was always the most scarce resource during a dungeon.

To save time I would want to see something that does not involve the DM's attention. The DM could state "perform your pre-round action as they pull out the combat board". Healing, resistances, one time item that makes you immune to sitting in the corner solving a logic puzzle.

Personal bard perspective:
To me, the best part of playing the bard class is making the hard choice.
Do I lore check? Do I sing? Do I cast? Do I slide? Do I dance if I want to, do I leave my friends behind? The coolest bard items let you perform multiple actions at once. Singing lore check, dancing combat slide, interpretive healing scrolls.
