What a GREAT Gen Con Indy!
True Dungeon at Gen Con Indy 2010 Recap
Wow! What a great time I had at Gen Con Indy this year! I think, in general, we put on a great show -- and the feedback has been good, too. We managed to expand to 3 dungeon runs (from 2 runs) while increasing the quality of the props, sets and puzzles. I do regret making the dragon so tough...but that kind of thing is really hard to playtest. It was a dragon, so I wanted to make it really tough to kill, but I guessed poorly on how hard it was going to be to hit that 19 and 20 area on the combat board. I was shooting for about a 15-20% survival rate, but it was much lower than that. I appreciate everyone's goodwill and understanding on the dragon combat, and I congratulate those groups who did slay Smoak. You did well! I won't be having any super-tough Boss monsters for at least a few years! I hope you all understand why I HAD to make the dragon a tough kill. It was a dragon after all, and she needed to be the meanest monster ever. I am sorry that she was a little too mean.
Riddle Reveal Video
Tom and Jenny Jennings have made some cool fan-created videos in the past for TD, and they really did well this year with their Riddle Reveal video. They took footage from the "Dragonward" dungeon and matched it will audio they captured at the Riddle Reveal seminar at Gen Con Indy. Click on the screen below to view their video. We are not releasing a Riddle Reveal for "The Evading Hilt" as we are going to present that adventure again in 2012. Even though we are going to greatly alter the adventure (2-3 completely new rooms), we don't want to give any secrets away.
Wil Wheaton, Felicia Day and some "The Guild" cast members SLAY SMOAK!
We managed to arrange an "uber-geek" running of the Dragonward adventure for Wil Wheaton, Felicia Day and other cast members from "The Guild" (along with two TD volunteers). Wil had played before back at Gen Con So Cal, and the others were geeked up by Wil's account of his fun. They had a great time in "Dragonward" and they even talked about how they "loved True Dungeon" at a Q&A later at Gen Con (and at DragonCon, too!). For the whole story, see the various links below.
The victorious adventurers!
The highlight of the entire adventure was the incredible feat that Wil Wheaton was able to accomplish. And it was something that NO OTHER PLAYER managed to do. He "insta-killed" Smoak by making an incredible slide with his +2 Long Spear of Dragonslaying. It was an amazing shot! The players went nuts...and so did I!

True Dungeon Players Raise $9,000 for the Gygax Memorial Fund!
Since Gary Gygax created Gen Con in his house over 40 years ago, since he co-created Dungeons and Dragons, and since he graciously did some adventure introductions for us back in 2004 and 2005, it seemed like I had to do something to help raise money (and awareness) for the effort to construct a memorial to a man did so much for us all. Lori and I decided to raise the TD ticket price by $2 and to have 100% of that go directly to the Gygax Memorial Fund. Click on the link below to see us giving a $9,000 check to Gail Gygax (Gary's widow). I am happy to report that the donation helped to bring press to the effort, and Gail told me that she has seen a sharp increase in donations. If you would like to donate to this worthy cause, you can do so HERE.

The 2011 Token Collection Will Arrive in December
Due to some factors involving the printer, we had to develop the 2011 Token Collection earlier than normal. I have worked with many great volunteers to craft a very cool new set of tokens themed to the underwater adventure you will face in 2011. Many of the tokens have a pirate theme, and the 2011 Ultra Rare tokens are really cool! One (Ring of Riches) gives you three extra treasure coins at the end of your adventure, and others (3 Might items) can raise your character to 5th level! Check them out below, and remember that 1 in 100 10-packs have one of these randomly inserted into them. Also, please understand that for every $250 you spend on tokens, you get to actually pick an Ultra Rare that will be added to your order. You also have a 30% to get a random UR with each $250 order!
Pre-orders will start in mid-October. More information will be sent soon.

Thank You Players and Volunteers!
I know you all might be getting tired of me always thanking people for their help with True Dungeon. I never want to forget how incredibly lucky I am to have the help of so many awesome people -- from the volunteers who help put on the event to the players who give us great feedback. True Dungeon is really just one big group exercise that I have the privilege to direct, and I am very appreciative of getting to live out my geek dream of making "true" dungeon adventures for thousands of people. I will continue to work hard to deserve your support. Thanks!
