2010 Event Details
Price: The cost of a True Dungeon ticket did not go up last year, and this year we are raising the price up $2.00 to $40.00 per ticket. All of this $2.00 increase in ticket price will go directly to the Gygax Memorial Fund. Gary Gygax, creator of Gen Con and co-creator of D&D, deserves a fitting memorial, and we are happy to be a part of the fundraising. Gary was a great friend of True Dungeon in its infancy, and he perfomed some of our earlier narration voice-overs as a volunteer. If we sell out this year of all our two-hour adventure tickets we will be able to donate $9,000 to this great cause. If you would like to contribute directly, please visit the GMF website.
Story Background: All three events (two dungeon adventures and one True
Grind event) are tied together with the same story background. It has
been one year since both adventuring groups have successfully recovered the
Plaque of Gaia from the druid’s tomb and defeated the Troll Mage for his
Fearbane Elixir. Much evil has befallen the elven city of Gilhaven in the
mean time as Smoak, a smallish (but resourceful) red dragon, has over-run the area
with his evil horde. He has taken up residence on a cliff high above the
city in an shrine/cave where he often sleeps on his huge pile of treasure
(mostly True Dungeon Treasure Tokens!)
True Dungeon Adventure Event Structure: Both of the two-hour adventures
have the same goal in mind of getting into Smoak’s lair. One group will
face him in mortal combat, while the other group will use this time of
distraction to attempt to retrieve a powerful evil relic from an ancient vault
near the back of the Smoak's new lair. Both groups will get to see and
experience our very cool red dragon, but they will not affect each other's
chances of success in their perspective adventures.
True Dungeon Adventure: “DragonWard": This completely new
adventure will task players to take an actual Plaque of Gaia prop into a
druidic Planar Nexus to obtain the four missing parts of the Plaque set.
Once the parts are assembled by defeating fearsome foes and perplexing puzzles
the party will create an elemental damping item (a Dragonward) which will
greatly reduce the power of Smoak’s fire breath. This will give the party
immunity to one of his deadly breath attacks as they seek to destroy him before
he can set the party to a fiery end.
True Dungeon Adventure: “The Evading Hilt”: This completely new (and puzzle oriented) adventure will challenge the party to sneak through an unlocked gate of the evil-infested elven city of Gilhaven and enter a testing tower inside a mage academy. Located near the cliff face that holds Smoak’s cave, this tower is a place of wizardly learning, and the party must solve puzzles and defeat a few foes to climb its bizarre levels and reach its top spire. There the party can secretly enter Smoak’s cave via an ancient bridge, and then while Smoak is distracted by the combat with the "Dragonward" group, they can try to recover an ancient hilt stored in a mystical iron cage in the back of Smoak's lair. Both adventures will end in a massive cavern room where everyone will get to see and experience our coolest monster ever -- Smoak!
Both of these two-hour events will have start times running from 10am-Midnight (Thursday and Friday) and 10am-7pm on Saturday. Adventures start every 12 minutes. NOTE: All 2-hour adventures within the noon and 6:00pm hours will be automatically set on Nightmare level of difficulty. The event descriptions will reflect this clearly.
True Grind Event: “Unlocking Fortune’s Gate”: This one-hour True Grind adventure will take place just before the characters from “The Evading Hilt” seek to enter the city. It will be your task to fight your way through a city containing hordes of Smoak’s minions before finding yourself in front of Fortune’s Gate – a back entrance to the city. There you must defeat a final guardian and determine how to open this magically barred city gate. You must be successful so that the adventurers from "The Evading Hilt" can find their way to the mage tower.
Special Limited Edition Tokens to All Players: Every player that plays a particular adventure (or True Grind) will receive a special, limited edition Uncommon power-rated token at the end of their event. You don't have to survive to receive the token. All players who try an adventure (or True Grind) on a Nightmare setting will not get this token, but they will instead receive a special, limited edition Rare power-rated token at the end of the adventure. This totals up to 6 different special edition tokens being available at Gen Con 2010.
Survivor Buttons: Anyone who survives an adventure will receive a Survivor button. There will be six different buttons available in 2010 -- a normal and Nightmare button for both two-hour adventures as well as both for True Grind. These buttons feature the name, year and difficulty setting on the adventure.
Treasure Coins: Players will have many chances to earn Treasure Coins during their adventure -- even during True Grind. Players can earn them by besting a monster or solving a puzzle. These Treasure Coins can be redeemed in the Exit Area for random pulls from our Treasure Token Random Generator Chests (which include some ultra-rare tokens) or you can turn them in for other cool TD stuff.
Experience Points: We award XP to players after they play a two-hour dungeon event. The formula is 650 XP + 50 XP/ per room reached (but not necessarily survived) for a maximum of 1,000 XP if you make it alive into the last room. You can play the same event multiple times, but you only get the highest total gained at one seating. So, if you made it to Room 6 on Thursday slot (950 XP) and Room 7 (1,000 XP) on a Saturday run the highest XP you will earn for that adventure is 1,000 XP. We track all our player's XP totals on our website (which is getting an overhaul this Spring!), and players get certain benefits based on their current player level.
1st: 0-999 XP
2nd: 1,000-2,999 XP Benefit: Ability to enter certain special events like this year's True Grind event
3rd: 3,000-5,999 XP Benefit: First pick of character class BEFORE any 1st or 2nd level players get to choose. All 3rd level+ players will roll off for order of choosing.
4th: 6,000-9,999 XP Benefit: May enter certain online contests during the year
5th: 10,000-14,999 XP Benefit: Gain title of “Lord” or “Lady” in our TD Community which gives you special access to restricted areas
6th: 15,000-24,999 XP Benefit: Gain one extra Treasure Coin which you can turn in at Exit Area for treasure tokens pulls or official TD stuff
Nightmare Setting and XP: If everyone in the TD party agrees to do it, or if your event title specifically states that you are on a Nightmare run, you can run any of the two two-hour adventures (or even the True Grind adventure) on a Nightmare setting of difficulty. The monsters are much tougher, the puzzle are harder, the damage is higher -- but the fun is magnified, too. Some players really enjoy the challenge and the pride of besting an adventure on its most difficult setting. To compensate these stalwart adventurers we allow them to receive additional XP for their run. The formula for the earned XP is 1,650 XP + 50 XP/ room reach. And as per our XP stacking rules, the XP earned from Nightmare-setting adventures does not stack with any normal or Nightmare XP earned that year from the same adventure. This means that the highest XP total that a person can earn is 2,000 XP for a given adventure in a year -- even if they played the same adventure multiple times on the normal and Nightmare settings. So with two two-hour adventures in 2010, the maximum XP available is 2,000 XP if you play two adventures on the Normal setting (and reach the last room), or 4,000 XP if you play both modules on the Nightmare setting (if you reach the last room alive!).
NOTE: All 2-hour adventures within the noon and 6:00pm hours will be automatically set on Nightmare level of difficulty. The event descriptions will reflect this clearly.

UPDATED! Details of the Ultra-Cool 2010 Token Program
Pre-orders are now being taken for the new 2010 Treasure Token collection until Friday, April 2nd , 2010. The tokens should ship out around April 20th. Many in the True Dungeon community have work hard on the 2010 Token Collection, and we have produced a very cool set of tokens! We are really excited about the ALL NEW "Lore" tokens with their new "copper metallic" backing. Each treasure token kit comes with a dice pouch and 10 tokens which include 6 Common, 2 Uncommon, 1 Rare and 1 Lore token. There is a 1% chance that any given pack of 10 tokens will include an Ultra Rare token in place of a Common token. Note any orders of 10 "10-packs" or more will not come with bags. They will be shipped shrink wrapped.
Lore tokens have a special code (location of where the Lore is found) that is entered at our website to receive "secret" information regarding the two 2010 module and the True Grind event. There are 40 different Lore tokens to be found, and each one has an unique code that will unlock additional information about the 2010 monsters, puzzles, combo tokens, and other good stuff. The special page will go active the day tokens are shipped out, and we plan on keeping the Lore page active and interesting all the way up until the event in August. The codes received on the Lore tokens will just be the beginning of the "off-season" fun as additional clues will be available in multiple layers. For instance, the code from one Lore token might allow you to unlock more specific information later during an upcoming night that has a full moon.
Note that all info regarding Combo tokens will only be available through this Lore process. Of course, people are free to post any info they wish...but we are not responsible for any untrue info posted!

Big Token Buyers EAT FREE at Gen Con! To properly thank all the big token buyers who support True Dungeon through their token purchases, we are placing their names on the guest list for the 2010 True Dungeon Hospitality Suite at Gen Con Indy. This suite has great FREE food and drinks, and you will get a chance to meet many of the TD volunteers. It will be located in the Marriott Hotel -- only a short elevator ride from the event. Anyone ordering $2,000 or more will be entered on the guest list, and they can visit the Suite from Wednesday through Saturday at Gen Con Indy.

It is Going To Be a GREAT Spring
Warmer temperatures not only mean we won't be freezing in the warehouse as we work on the event, but it also means we will be working more closely with senior volunteers to coordinate the event. I can't wait to start programming our dragon Smoak! And there a still a good many sets to finish. It should be a fun Spring!
I hope you enjoys your Spring as well.
