Prior to 2010  only a Bard, Fighter, Paladin, or Ranger could benefit from the Mithral Set Bonus (half damage from breath weapons) because those were the only classes that could use all three mithral items. But since the upcoming Mithral Gauntlets are usable by anyone, Clerics and Barbarians could now utilize three mithral items. Would they now be able to benefit from this set's three-item bonus? The Token Guide v8.0 specifically states Chain, Cap, and Sword must be used together, but that was written before to the existence of the Gauntlets.

I would imagine they would benefit from it.  As I recall the posts about the 3- and 5-item sets, there were no specific three tokens that would have to be used, just three of the mithral items.  Disclaimer: I have not been granted membership in the TPTB club, so my word is in no way final on this.

Wasn't mithril immunity to breath weapons, not half damage from? If it is half damage...there are better options. Those classes with access to dragonscale are better off going for that. The way it breaks down is:

Fire Resistance (potion, ring, whatever) + Dragonscale set >> Fire Resistance + Mithril set

You're almost guarenteed no damage with the former. 1/4 to 1/8 with the latter.

For the gamblers out there, evasion + fire resistance gives you a shot to avoid everything on a single saving throw.

Token Guide v8.0 says it's half damage, not immunity.

Forum history says immunity.

Was if Jeff or Dave who said that?

I honestly don't know who said what when, nor if a forum post by TPTB supersedes the guide. All I can say is that on page 33 of Token Guide v8.0 it clearly says half.

Jeff at the time the 09 set was being put together. The power for the celestial set was supposed to be immunity to breath weapons. Then it go swapped with the mithril. I don't recall at any point it got turned into half damage from breath weapons instead. I could have sworn we were still debating the value of the immunity last summer when we all expected a dragon for the 09 dungeon.

Ahh, that takes me back to the shrieking and complaining over the 'save and die' Drider. That was a nasty piece of work the first day before it was scaled back.

Dave is working on the Token Guide now, and he plans to have it out by April 20th when the tokens go out.  Thanks, Dave!

We are going to talk about all the applicable fire protection magic and have a clear example of how it all works verses Smoak.

Sorry for all the confusion!

Don't be too clear. I think it's good to have a little uncertainty. How many adventures have ever gone up against a dragon let alone a dragon like Smoak. Leave some mystery to it - heck, spreads false rumors. Makes it more fun...
