That's part of my problem with the SDCC system. Sure, people have been able to go for X many years in a row, but that is the problem - if it's going to be (supposedly) random, it should be random for everyone, with no favoritism for anyone regardless of whether or not they attended the previous year.

At the very least, make it more fair by weighting the system to increase the chances for people who have been unable to register the previous year(s). Each year you are not allowed to register increases your chances.

I remember when it didn't used to sell out - I would attend and you could buy the next year's badge at the current con, even at a discounted price, if i remember correctly.

Perhaps you can tell from my bitter attitude whether or not I was able to buy a badge. I was trying with a group of people, and none of us were able to buy a single day.

Actually Gen Con is not that far away from that. Several years ago I had decided to stop attending Gen Con because I got completely shut out of all my events including True Dungeon and on a lark I was able to get in with the generics and then someone told me about volunteering so I decided to return to Gen Con is the volunteer. And although it was the 50th anniversary for Gen Con they did sell out of badges this year.

The sell out is kind of curious. The attendance number was essentially unchanged from 2016 to 2017. At the same time, the space available expanded significantly with the addition of the Stadium floor.

Maybe housing is the limiting factor.
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir

Exactly. To me it felt like they added an attendance cap for the first time last year. Now that that is established, it probably won't go away.
