If you're a veteran D&D or other fantasy RPG player, you've probably heard of caltrops:

These vaguely pyramidal pointy things that really hurt when stepped on and are typically used to slow pursuers. But did you know they have a natural origin?

Tribulus terrestris , aka goat's-head, bullhead, cat's-head, devil's-thorn, puncture vine, or (wait for it) caltrop is a plant that produces seeds encased in a double-pronged, very sharp enclosure.

I suspect folks is some parts of the words are all-too-familiar with these nasty little seeds, but this city-boy had never heard of them until today and found this revelation fascinating.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
Please post TDb corrections in this thread .

Biking in the Midwest, you run over those little suckers WAAAAYYYY too often.
Really annoying to have stop and replace the tire tube every 30 minutes :P

D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir
