TOPIC: Meet at the Inn

Re: Meet at the Inn 11 years 2 months ago #37

"Barkley, your words confuse me. 'bucolic?' Bah! It is just a village, with a problem and gold."
Cram seems to notice his scent for seemingly the first time.
"I think a bathing would do me well. There were no rivers or ponds I could find journeying here. I will bathe and sleep. I will be at this table an hour before dawn."
With that, Cram stands, and strides over to the innkeeper, and inquires about a room and bath, hoping to get the gypsy's gold to pay for it.

"Adeya, I just washed these pants! (sigh) Not an issue however as we will presently be resting for the night and I can give them to one of the maids to wash."

Turns to our new arrival, "This humble holy fighter of Pelor bids you a warm and slightly damp welcome. You say you are good with locks? Maybe we can discus that sometime on our journey. You can regale me with tales of the locks you have seen and I will tell you all about the joys of life in Pelor's service."

"Cram, we better get at that gold before the locals pour it all down their gullets. (yelling out not noticing that Cram is already talking to the bar keep) Bar Keep, use some of that Gypsy's gold to set up baths and bedding for our entire table. Oh, and send a wench by our rooms after the baths. I have some pants for her to wash..."

(turning back to the table losing my smirk and putting on a much more serious expression) "Pelor would not have brought this to our attention if he didn't want us to look into this. I agree that something must be done. I'll leave the planning to you Barkley, you seem to enjoy that administrative stuff or was that kissing up to administrators. I can never seem to get that straight."

With that my friends, new and old, I bid you good night. (I rise from the table and walk towards where I saw barmaids carrying buckets of hot water through a curtain) "On to the baths!"

Feeling every bit of his fifty plus years the paladin walks away from the table wondering where all this will lead. It has been a wonderful and exciting time in Pelor's service but time and circumstance have not been kind to the old Paladin. His hair may be gray but his gray eyes still sparkle with the thought of new adventure and service to his beloved Pelor.

Simultaneously flattered and offended, Barkley says "Adeya, my child, perhaps you would be kind enough to ensure some of the gypsy's gold is put to good use. We'll need the innkeeper to have our mounts and supplies ready by dawn. Be sure he packs plenty of garlic; iron rations don't agree with me and it's good for the digestion. Meanwhile, I shall visit the temple (OOC I hope there is one nearby) to see what records there may be of this curse."

He stops a few feet away and turns back. "If we truly wish Pelor to guide us, we must show our devotion. I shall return with holy symbols for all, as a sign of Pelor's patronage and our unity, and small silver mirrors as symbols of the light within us all."

"Friend Barkley," I address the cleric, "if you happen to espy a shrine to my Lady Avandra, please let me know, that I might make an offering. I did not see one on my way into town, but I was... distracted."

"Innkeep, I will avail myself of another cup of tea on our benefactor's copper piece, this time with a dollop of honey; before I retire to the bath."

"The innkeeper will make good coin from his baths tonight, and I think we will all be the better for it," Breon mutters to himself. He gathers his belongings, keeping a wary eye on the juggler, and prepares to retire.

"Pelor and Avandra and the Seven may bless us, but I prefer a prepared mind and my spell books to a holy symbol. I am going to review my scrolls and tomes. I will see you at first light. If time allows as we travel, Adeya, we can compare notes and see how your Elven magic compares to mine."

"Well met, Lexan. Your skills will likely serve us well, especially if there is deception afoot, as we suspect."

*yawns* "Well, with that, I think I'll be off to bed, as well. Sleep well, my friends."

The tall, muscled human ranger rises from the table and bows slightly to the group. As he passes the bar, a barmaid smiles shyly at him. He brushes his long brown hair back and smiles back at her. "It's the goatee," he thinks as he starts up the stairs, "They always like the goatee."

And with that the you all retire to your evenings rest at the expense of your mysterious patron. Once Barkley returns with his supplies from the local temple arrangements are made for your mounts to be saddled and readied to travel at first light.

The following morning all wake rested and ready. After a quick but hearty breakfast of pottage and eggs you gather your possessions and set out towards the Svalich woods.

Black pools of water stand like dark mirrors about the muddy
roadway as you reach the edge of the forest. Thick, cold mists circle and spread a pallor through the giant tree trunks standing on both sides of the road, their branches clawing into the mists. In every direction the mists grow thicker and the forest grows more oppressive.

According to the gypsy it will take another five hours on this road to reach the gates of Barovia.

"Personally, I am not disturbed by the lack of illumination," I note, adding, "I would save your spell, Friend Breon."

I carefully observe the forest around the path, watching for any unexpected movement.

(In that case, Lexan is character ID #5222, though personally I would think his Int is much higher and his Wis is much lower. Though this will(?) change when I get the 2013 tokens... And I would hope the CroM is less conspicuous. More of a simple signet.)

(second OOC thought; should we do a second thread with character descriptions and the like?)

Sure, if you create one I'll link it in the first post :)
