After all - we are Gen Con's customers - competent organizations do sometimes listen to their customers.

Some of us have posted on the GenCon forums. The responses have been less than encouraging. Maybe more of us should do so.
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir

I wasn't even able to find any discussions of this on the GENCON forums. Searching for True Dungeon just brought up a bunch of old stuff. Didn't they used to have a True Dungeon sub-forum?

You should be able to find the Gen Con forum discussion here

www.gencon.com/forums/32-events-2018/topics/13627-true-dungeon-or-other-etickets-will-not-show-up-on-your-my-packets-page

It's in the Event section and the heading is around True Dungeon events not showing in My Packet, but the discussion brings up allocation of etickets.

Harlax wrote: For the last 3 years GenCon has been nothing but TD for me. I've moved some of my other gaming activity to Who's Yer Con. This year I'll be doing less TD at GenCon and more at Origins and Gamehole Con. I've essentially cut my activity at GenCon in half, not counting volunteering.

If adventures were not debuting at GenCon, I wouldn't feel any compelling need to be there. That makes me kind of sad.

Gencon has been TD con for me for years now. I truly enjoy the city and i make a point to spend Wed and Sun exploring a bit but con itself i'll basically live in whatever hall we're in during a given year due to play/volunteering

For me it's less the new adventures and more of local friends who can't afford the travel to Origins or Game Hole con. Out of my original group 7 years ago, i'm the only one returning to Indy for TD this year due to costs and other factors.

Another thread in the Gencon forum where Laz and I have posted in response to Derek Guder (Gencon staff) www.gencon.com/forums/32-events-2018/topics/13698-electronic-ticket?page=1#post-47502
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven

I'm in both of those threads as well. jmlawson.

So far neither Derek or Marian has replied to our concerns.

In fairness, many of the posts were made on Friday and they may well have not looked yet. There is an email This email address is being protected from spambots. I suspect its going to have to take conversation with someone higher up the Org Chart before anything is resolved.

I posted my concerns on the Gencon forums as well (Harlax thank you for posting the link.) i tried to explain how the coaching room may become a problem with late attendees. I didn’t get into ghosting since I doubt they would understand that concept (also Gencon will likely oppose ghosting since they have so many events sell out, selling out potential games with open seats diminishes the gaming opportunities for the con as a whole if they all sell out (or even mostly as not all attendees go every day.)j

Mongo, my intent wasn’t to offend you - I was pointing out that this is a luxury and a lot of us have had cases where we’ve been stuck with extra tickets before. Saying things like, “class action” hurts the case we all want to make to Gencon. Class action cases cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to organize and have to meet a threshold that, on average, the individuals impacted are so numerous that the cases can’t be resolved individually. It really doesn’t apply here and makes us appear to be going in a direction that isn’t constructive. None of this is Jeff’s fault but he’s reading the hate.

Yes, losing open slots costs money. I also understand having a tight budget. This game is a luxury, if we ever choose tokens or slots over buying school supplies for our kids, we should walk away. The paper system had us lose money as well (yes, ghosting could make up for some of that loss) but only happened in a large scale if someone was farming,

I support Jeff limiting farming when tickets are scarce. Origins might not sell out so it sounds like ghosting there makes sense. Even so, I would urge anyone who is buying up full runs or have several tickets to look in the waiting area to see if there are people who are hoping to get in and see if you can include them. My first run was to a sold out time and was the only time I had free during Gencon - we ended up with 6 people in the run going on nightmare mode with 2 players carrying the rest of us. We didn’t know enough to understand that we weren’t making much of a difference in combat but we all helped with the puzzles. I was hooked from then on, and like many of you, have spent thousands of dollars since.

Let’s stay focused on the games running smoothly in a way that helps True Adventures earn a fair income from it.

Jeff, I know I speak for a number of other players that we would be happy to help test the e-ticket system if you need the extra hands.

Fred, part of why TD sells out is that people buy ghost tickets. It’s a fallacy to assume that every ghost is a spot that would have been filled by someone else. Some? Sure.

If a party has to give up on a no-show within 30 minutes of the event, then they’re out the money. TD is also out the money. GC, who created this travesty, gets to keep it all. It’s a rule that might work for some random board game with a $2 ticket. For TD, it’s absurd and outrageous.

And I’m pretty sure Jeff realizes that nobody blames him for responding to a situation out of his control, let alone “hate” him.

It was GC who yanked the rug out from under everyone. If people don’t complain and express their frustration and anger, GC will never comprehend what they’ve done, and they’ll think it’s okay.

It’s not.
