TOPIC: Waivers and Paperwork

Waivers and Paperwork 6 years 10 months ago #1

Gods willing, I'll have three runs this year. Two website-sponsored runs, and one 'total noob' run. [Thanks Jeff for the clarification on the new LE rules.]

I have this question. In order to save time, and hassle, can I download a copy of the waiver/registration form anywhere? That way I can have my two customer runs fill out all their paperwork ahead of time and not have to try to heard 20 people through the line and keep track of them all.

Thanks :)

There isn't one AFAIK. I doubt the lawyers would let that happen. There are people, not you, who would change the waiver or create their own with who knows what stuff in it. *

So rather than read through to make sure it's the form they want, they just hand you a copy of the one they know is legit.

* This is why we can't have nice things.

Eh. I won't debate on how binding a non-notarized, non-witnessed waiver is :P

I get your point though.

Truthfully, they don't hand them to you, they are in a stack on the table. In past event I've walked away with a handful for the week. Nothing would have stopped me from bringing back an altered one.

If there are suddenly people insisting you sign waivers in front of them this year. I guess everyone can blame me.
Feel free to pelt me with tokens as I walk by. Don't be alarmed if I scoop them off the floor hurriedly, I'm just worried about people tripping on them.

A couple~three notes, on Waivers:

1) I have never had problems* with going to the registration desk early and grabbing a Waiver or two to sign, and then taking them to a more comfortable place so my friends & I could fill them out. Then, when we go back to the desk to drop them off, there's very little standing around waiting. Hypothetically, you could do this with the waivers for you whole group, if the desk let you grab 10 waivers, and if you were able to get your whole group to fill them out at some meeting time & place before the actual dungeon run.

2) Once you've signed one waiver for that day, you don't need to sign a second one. Just keep your wristband from the earlier event, and you can use it as proof that you already signed a waiver that day.

3) You can also sign in early for your run. Not too early, but if your run is in the next hour or two, you can swing by the registration desk, hand in your ticket, sign your waiver, and get your wristband, and then go do some other stuff before heading to your appointed Coaching room. This is very useful if you have 2 runs back-to-back (sign in for both at the same time!) or if you're waiting for friends who haven't arrived yet, and want to meet them outside the event with their tickets, instead of them needing to hunt you down inside the event.

* I can't actually guarantee that this will work for everyone. The rules may have changed in the past year. Or It's possible that waivers must officially be signed in front of the staff, so they know who is signing them, but that I get cut some slack because I'm a volunteer and they already know me. Either way, double check before you try it.

Yeah, I've never had a problem doing that either. I just tend to be a little type-a about getting my prep work done. I'm sure people are *shocked*. Heh.

I wouldn't bank on that being the case. I have been asked to sign two waivers for back to back runs.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
Please post TDb corrections in this thread .

Noted.

I mean, you never bank on anything in TD. If the nice lady at the desk asks you to fill out another waiver, you do it. if the DM tells you that the monster hit your 30AC with his roll of 6, you take the damage. And after the fact, you can make the request that someone double-check the module or clarify the ruling.

But for the most part, the crew at the front desk will take the presence of a TD wristband on your arm as proof that you have already signed a waiver.

I'm a believer that TD could create an online waiver system that would be just as good and as binding as the one they currently ave, as Steve mentioned, really not all that binding with no notary, no official witness.

Most of the paintball/laser tag/go kart places my kids go to these days have online waivers available to be filled out in advance

Some for our local indoor rock climbing spot.

But the difference may be that those places control both the online waiver and the "ticketing" so it's easier to coordinate.

The current system sucks, and I've complained about it myself (especially since those of us on the Local Install Group have to sign it additional times). But given the constraints and balancing interests I've come to suspect it really is one of the better options possible.

While annoying, the current system doesn't have to worry about any technology failing, and it doesn't rely on having some mechanism to accurately verify that the person checking in is the same person that signed the online form.

I will question when the DM says I just took 60 points of damage and make sure I am not in an epic run :-).
