Say for a moment that Commons are worth a few cents each.
Then move the decimal point over every time you increase in rarity.

So....
Commons can be valued in pennies,
Uncommons in dimes,
Rares in dollars,
Ultra-rares in Tens of dollars,
Relics in Hundreds,
and Legendaries can be over $1000.

I like this. It is elegant, and 'simple' enough to get the point across.
I also agree that anyone 'pouncing' on people near the treasure area with cash offers is a good red flag.

It is a weird line to walk. Because we *want* to encourage trading. And truthfully .. some people, regardless of how heretical it is, *hate* their True Dungeon experience. To those folks, $40 for a UR might be 'good enough' as they never expect to play again, and it lets them recoup most of their ticket cost.

[One person in a PUG run I wound up tour-guiding last year tried to give me his tokens at the end of the run. He said he had a lot of fun but didn't ever expect to play again. I spent a few minutes trying to talk up the game . but he really had zero interest. So we grabbed a young kid coming out of another run, asked him if he every played before today, and gave him the tokens when he said no. ]

Thanks, Steve.

I realize that my super-simple formula leaves out many things, like Monster trophies, Exalted & Enhanced transmutes, and all of the trade items.... which players could quite easily draw as treasure.

If I need to give a ballpark on these, I'd say "they fit between Rares and UltraRares.... but there's a lot of variation. If you get a token type or colour which you don't recognize, take it to a token merchant and ask."

Also, in reference to a comment which Henwy made earlier - I am one of those people who will low-ball offer on a token, and make sure the newbie knows it's a lowball. I've actually said to players, "Your Monster trophy is worth $5-10 if you find the right person to trade with. Me? -I can offer you 2 or 3 rares, which is maybe half what it's worth if you look around. But I'm here right now, and if you don't play the crafting game, or want to bother with eBay or forum sales, or waiting for tomorrow when Kirk/Ed/George will be back... then I'll give you tokens which you can use right now. Just be aware that you do have other options.

And a lot of players will say thanks, and go elsewhere.

But there are those who will say, "I'd way rather have Gauntlets of Ogre Power and a +1 Sword than a Vial of slime" and we both walk away happy.

Something Ed and I have started doing that could become a standard practice, is we will independently offer blind bids, and then seller can pick the one they like best. We didn't do this much or even intentionally at Origins, but when we did it worked out well.

One time somebody had a token and I made them an offer and then told them that Ed is likely more interested in the token than I would be. So I told them to not mention my offer and get an offer from Ed, and then they can pick the best one. They did, and sure enough Ed beat my offer (that he didn't know about) and bought the token.

Another time it was quite the opposite. I just showed up from a food break and somebody showed me a relic they pulled. I made them an offer and they took it (Ed was busy so I didn't think to send them to him). Later Ed asked me what I paid and told me it was slightly more than his offer, and that he had told the person to get a second offer from me.

Perhaps at GenCon Ed and I can do this more formally therefore making sure that newbies have at least two solid offers on a token. But of course I wouldn't want to run afoul of any GenCon regulations. I was actually thinking about offering only trades or store credit during GenCon hours instead of cash. The person could contact me after GenCon and get a PayPal for the store credit. But I think this would put me at a disadvantage if other people are making cash offers.

We buy, sell, and trade True Dungeon tokens. We also have a convenient consignment program where you can sell your own tokens.

jedibcg wrote: I have a minor issue with a poster with prices. I don't think Jeff wants to be in the business of set secondary market prices. A poster of explaining the rarity and saying get a second and/or third opinion I think would be better than saying this rarity is worth X dollars.

If it said something like URs are generally valued at 100. Then someone getting a pixie figurine snd being offered 50 is going to think they are being ripped off. Where if you want to buy a pixie for 90 please pm me. :)

I admit I am not an artist or graphic designer, but here is a concept drawing of a poster which might help explain the relationships between tokens. If the sample token pictures for the commons, uncommons, and rares included the GP tokens then an intelligent person could figure out some approximate values. I know I didn't finish the transmute section, but it is just a concept, by no means a finished piece.

I was not able to see/access that image.

Also, the "size" box in the insert image interface refers to pixels, not file size. In most cases, you can leave that field blank.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
Please post TDb corrections in this thread .

I think it is absolutely very detailed, and accurate. That said, even in a huge format, it will certainly be confusing for new players, and will lead to a lot of questions of the staff.

It may still be worth it, at least in some form, but I think a simple sign that says, "Tokens are collectible, be sure to get multiple opinions before selling or buying" at the epilogue room might be enough.

Good information, but kind of confusing. I think a generic "It's a good idea to get a second opinion" type sign would work.

What about combining Ravens

Commons can be valued in pennies,
Uncommons in dimes,
Rares in dollars,
Ultra-rares in Tens of dollars,
Relics in Hundreds,
and Legendaries can be over $1000.

with getting a second or third opinion?

I think (just my opinion) that Jeff doesn't want to assign any cash values to any TD tokens, even as general as this.

Maybe someone more artistic can streamline it a bit and make it less confusing. I have only been playing 5 years and I would say I was 100% confused on transmutes and any tokens other than C/UC/R/UR's for at least 2 of them and then still moderately confused for another year. Had there been a poster like this available then (with good examples and QR link barcodes), I would have had a better understanding of the tokens more quickly.
