There will be a riddle reveal with more info, but the shambling mound was immune to critical hits, blunt weapons, shock, mind-affecting magic, and sneak attacks.

I wonder if the DM was ruling all melee damage to be 0 from anyone who had the shock icon on their melee party card (from Bracers of Lightning)?

I don't know, but I would doubt it. There would be a reduction of just the shock damage.

Shambling Mounds are nasty to begin with. Typically immune to blunt weapons. Piercing do half. (Viper Strike Fang would fall into that category) Immune to electricity. Half damage from fire. Immune to critical hits and sneak attacks. I thought slashing weapons were reduced also.

The party card only lists what elemental damage is present, not how much. If shock is listed as part of the build, there would be a standard damage reduction of 5 or 10 points. I would expect for Nightmare, there would be a 10 point reduction. Not sure if that reduction is before or after half damage from the type of weapon.

I don't know the specifics on the creature in this dungeon, but I could see Nightmare Shambling Mounds to be very challenging.

He was immune to my 26 point Lightning Bolt, but as I found out due to the water on the floor, my Party wasn't. ;)

Lol! I heard about this scenario. I'm just glad I wasn't there to get shocked.

But as far as the combat, the DM on at least one occasion said, "Oh, that would have been a lot of damage." which is when we figured out that blunt weapons weren't hurting it. On one of my 4 runs, we beat it a few minutes before the horn.

Hey i was the npc for the shambling mound, and the dm wanted people to beat it and he was calculating correctly, and cant be criticled isnt common knowledge and the dm announced he looks hurt meaning half health, but also nightmare isnt supposed to be easy, also there were nightmare groups healing themselves during the room change to save tokens and spells, which i guess if people have to cheat then what ever, but the dm didnt do anything wrong
i think I'm some sort of wizard

I really threw the DM for a loop when I said I was readying my second Lightning Storm spell. ;)

Not to cast shade on something I didnt see myself, but if they were nightmare groups the between room healing might have been legit. Templar set and icecrag earcuff show up in a lot of high end builds and both heal the wearer automatically between rooms.

I'm waiting to see the stats of the monsters. My only comments were some really high to hits and some really high ACs. Maybe nightmare got tuned higher than it has in the past.

I know personally just about every time i play TD i encounter a time where i go "how in the hell did that happen?"
then i shrug my shoulders and move on. Stuff just gets missed or is getting too complicated to do in the short amount of time given. There's always that one time where the paladin's melee is used instead of her ranged attack, or they forget to add in the damage bonus to ranged from the card, or forget the bard song. its a hard job being a combat DM.
Sweet a combat room, we won't take damage!
