TOPIC: Commons in the Treasure Box

In one of our runs, 3 of 36 pulled tokens were commons - all were common weapons.

Was that on purpose?

I doubt it. I pulled one common and gave it to the volunteer and pulled another to replace it.

The theory is that people not familiar with the token world comes across tokens and believe they are helping by returning them to the treasure box. Or even newer players who don't want some of the tokens in their ten pack.

I don't think that theory holds up with the new wands and mounting hardware around the hole - people would really have to work to get their stuff in there.

The box area was well lit and had a DM minding it.

I couldn't swear to it, but I don't think the common stuff I pulled were 2017 tokens.

Which would support kirk''s theory.

Anytime you draw a common, just ask and it gets replaced.

Perhaps a sign saying so would help people in the future. Especially newer players.

Newbies would have 2017 tokens, which was what was in their starting token 10 pack.

The existence of non-2017 commons in the box would virtually prove it's not new players putting it there (how would they have gotten non-2017 commons to begin with?).

You said your recollection was that they were 2017 commons, which would mean someone threw them into the otherwise 2016 mix.

Saw both 2017 commons and older pulled. We handed them to the volunteer and redrew.

The treasure was from GenCon I think, so 2016 commons could have been put in by people there.

Another theory - since transmuted tokens find their way into boxes, someone accidentally dropped a Steel's worth of weapons in the wrong bucket - which would explain why they all seemed to be weapons

I believe this theory is correct. It was all weapons form what I saw, so it was likely dwarven steel that accidentally got dumped into the treasure mix box.
