Nice! :)

And yeah .. Vegas also has a lot of union bullshit for the cons there.

This brings about an unpleasant bit of conversation (which might also explain the recent diversification in the last 2-3 years) : GenCon isn't going to *NOT* move because it would be inconvienient for Jeff.

Now, granted, from my understanding Peter met Jeff via Stephan, and pushed Jeff to premiere TD at GenCon Indy when it started. But if he retires .. that personal connection is gone. [Of course .. the $250k-$300k that TD makes GenCon off their cut of ticket sales speaks rather loudly.

If TD basically HAS to operate at Indy due to labor .. that makes for a bit more long term uncertainty.
Again .. the recent con diversity suggests that Jeff is (per usual) eight steps ahead of my meager brain :) So nothing to worry about anyways.

Anaheim had a chance, it didn't work well.

That was a long time ago, and LA is different from Anaheim.

The Unions in other cities would add to the cost of everything. This would result in fewer attendees, fewer vendors, and loss of revenue for Gen Con. I could see it moving to Louisville after they double their number of hotel rooms.

I bet the Unions in Kentucky would be just as expensive.

The Los Angeles Convention Center does not have nearly the same space as the Indiana or Anaheim CC s. Furthermore, LA doesn't have enough hotel room capacity.

As much as you and I would love to be able to sleep at home during Gen Con, it's not going to happen any time soon if we continue to live in So Cal.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
Please post TDb corrections in this thread .

In December of 2016 the current contract with the convention center was extend until 2021, with an option to annually add a year (at GenCon's option). This does not sound like GenCon is moving anytime soon.

NOW this is the Law of the Jungle — as old and as true as the sky;
And the Wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the Wolf that shall break it must die.

As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk the Law runneth forward and back —
For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.

Yes, it doesn't have Disney across the street from it.

I could easily talk my wife into going if she could hang out at Disney while I was doing TD.

I'm right there with you in missing the great times we all enjoyed in Milwaukee. But facing the fact, Gencon will never return. Least not in our lifetime.

It's more then just the arena. They need to level the whole downtown area just to make it desirable to return. The Convention Center is now half the size of what we have now. Parking is I doubt even a full half. Hotels is no where enough, even with the expected Arena plans and growth.

Then take the DT area today. Starting this month, the Grand Avenue Mall just SE of the CC there, will begin converting into private apartments. And shops located east of the CC are seeing their building ether gutted, or torn down. Restaurants are few. DT Milwaukee didn't fair well after we left.

I will be able to. I did it for anime expo. Just won't be at the con till late at night. That link shows that lacc has 770,000 sq ft, Indiana has 567,000 and Anaheim has 880,000
think there are plenty of hotels near lacc.

This makes me sad. I truly loved the GenCons in Milwaukee. I have many fond memories and but a few less fond memories there. As someone mentioned, Safe House is great. Maders was one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. The con seemed more vibrant there... like it was GenCon was at its pinnacle quality-wise. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy the shorter drive to Indianapolis and they have many great restaurants and bars of their own, it just doesn't feel the same.

Truth. Keep in mind, we were younger too :)
But I learned how to play Magic in Milwaukee [From Richard Garfield no less :P]
I also got to watch Chris Harbor run up a $7,000 bar tab at the Safehouse :)
I met Tom Wham for the first time, and Ernie Gygax.
Played darts with Jervis Johnson there too. [He is an AMAZING dart player .. but not until he has 2 pints in him.]

GenCon was more focused, but it was still TSR then. Pre WotC. Pre Hasbro.
It might have been more focused because it was smaller .. or because we were younger .. :) who knows.

All I know is I could do the whole con on six hours sleep .. total .. Those days are behind me now :P

Indy has never really felt the same to me either ..
