TOPIC: Sponsoring Newbie Run?

Sponsoring Newbie Run? 7 years 2 weeks ago #1

I'm considering sponsoring a newbie run at GenCon this year. Probably early Thursday morning, but who knows.

Here are my thoughts:

We'll run on normal, and I'll outfit everyone with a decent but simple set of gear. (Not a lot of complicated situational tokens).

I'll give you a photocopy of your character, and a rare weapon you can keep after the adventure. You'll keep your 10-pack, 4 treasure chips, and the completion token. And, you'll pay about 25-35% less than the normal price of the ticket.

Part of the deal is, you'll wear treasure enhancing tokens, and I'll keep the treasure in excess of four.

Another part - I'll play either cleric or Druid. My job will be to help answer questions in the coaching and training room, and give advice in the dungeon. I'll be geared to the max, but that's so I can keep everyone healed up. I'll only help on puzzles or swing in combat if asked.

Another experienced adventurer, my wife Shelly, will join us. She'll be geared like everyone else so that she doesn't overwhelm the rest of the group (but she's a pretty good slider).

So, pre-game coaching and mentoring on how to play, one more loot than you'd normally get, plus a rare weapon and a printout of a decent normal-to-hardcore build for your class, plus excellent "health care" and a limited life insurance policy (I'll bring a few Magic Mushrooms to try to ensure everyone survives to the last room.)

And, save at least 25% off the price of the ticket.

I'm curious to see if there's enough interest to go ahead with this plan, so feel free to PM me if you or someone you know might like to join us.

Just a suggestion, I am guessing that at least 95% people that are on this site, especially in the off season are not newbies. I would suggest posting this in the gen con forums.

I agree with Mike. I would suggest the forums and wait till closer to when event tickets go on sale in May. You should have little trouble finding people if you post something after tickets go on sale, that is generally how I find my random noobies to join my group.

Lastly I would recommend no situational tokens unless they are simething you can eauip on everyone. They are unlikely to remember. But if everyone has minus 1 melee and/or minus two fire you are more likely ro remember for the group.

What is this True Dungeon? I'd like to play since I'm a newbie.

I you want to run normal and get minimum Treasure Tokens and play with basic tokens, Brad might let you on the run.

I've played with Ro-gan before. (Just gonna leave that hanging there...)

I was looking more for a sanity check and a feeling for interest. I agree with every comment so far.

I wanted to keep it simple and low-stress for everyone concerned, so universal conditionals (like when I loaned out Topaz Spheres to everyone in 2012), and maybe one class-specific token per player, seems like the way to go.

And I realize that very few newbies wander into the forum. I think it took me two years to find it. I'll go to the GenCon forums with this later after I flesh out the details a little more, but I've already gotten a PM looking for slots, so it'll be a pleasant surprise if I don't have to take that step. Y'all know people, after all...

Maybe... thanks
