TOPIC: No WYC 2017 - Carbondale Instead

In case you haven't seen the Upcoming Events on the TD page:

Take a look. TD will not be attending WYC 2017 and instead of a special event in Carbondale, IL. I am sure there will be more information coming soon now that GHC is over.

Unfortunately I might be busy the 22nd, but if there are dungeon runs on the 21st, I will be there!

Would so love to be there. Sadly, its the same weekend as C2E2 in Chicago and I already have tickets and hotel for that.

Obviously Jeff needs to be more careful to check the Los Angeles Unified School District before scheduling events.

I missed WYC and GHC - not going to miss Carbondale.

I'm actually a little disappointed to hear this.

As an overall Con experience - I have enjoyed WhosYerCon very much each year I've gone. GameholeCon did not have the same feeling for me, and other than True Dungeon I did not enjoy it nearly as much. Not only was it much more expensive (without getting nearly as much cool swag as they give out at WYC) - but the other gaming didn't seem as inviting as at WYC.

I've always been able to play a lot of different things with new/different players at WYC outside of True Dungeon and I didn't get that same feeling at GameHoleCon.

In addition I always liked the chance to transmute items before GenCon without having to deal with packing everything up and mailing it away. The savings in shipping covered the gas it took to get to Indy from Chicagoland where I'm at.

The weekend chosen for the big event doesn't work out so well for me either - that's usually right when my work has big events that keep me from travelling (it's why I haven't been able to make most C2E2's - they are the same weekend as I'm stuck working).

Oh well...hope maybe I can attend the new adventure they are doing in Carbondale but I've got a sinking feeling it's one I won't be able to attend

Wow - I hope there will be more details posted about the event! If it's just a greatest hits dungeon I'll have to give it a pass, but if it's got exclusive content I demand to know more!

Well, this is sad news.

I was actually looking into WYC, which sounded interesting as a con, in general.

I guess it's possible to fly to Marion, but I'm not sure the same cache exists as even the convention. There's one dungeon and what else to do?

Anyway, these things are planned way in advance for a reason. My question is: what are the 2018+ plans for play outside of Gen Con? For instance, any chance of getting back to WYC or something similar?

WYC and GHC are already rather regional, it seems like even Origins is too much hassle (or Origins is not doing well enough to bet on it), nevermind going further afield.
