I've been looking forward to this without having read the books... (and have been looking forward to reading the books even more after all the updates and the token development....

Gonna read some soon. Not sure when... but soon!

Can't wait for GenCon.

They say that the best weapon is the one you never have to use. I respectfully disagree. I prefer the weapon you only have to use once! Oh - and if you really need to think about whether you're going to use the fireball or the + umpty staff of butt-whooping - you're likely to find yourself full of arrows, or fangs, or nasty knives & swords and such. Don't think - just shoot!

There are a total of 3 stories outside the main series of The Kingkiller Chronicles.

"How Old Holly Came to Be" is the first, and I just learned about it on Wikipedia .

"The Lightning Tree", which has already been mentioned in this thread.

"The Slow Regard of Silent Things" is a novella, which was published on its own (both of the other stories were publishes as parts of Anthologies). The Audible version of the story was recorded by Rothfuss himself, and is excellent. If you enjoy Rothfuss's writing, I high recommend the story but here is a short warning from its Wikipedia page "As Patrick Rothfuss himself says, the book does not do what a 'proper book should do', so that it actually doesn't have a very proper plot."

Currently reading The Name of The Wind, It is pretty interesting so far and well written. It will be neat to see how this source material is utilized in the game.

So question.
After seeing this update on how 2017 TD will have elements based off the Kingkiller Chronicles, I have jumped into this series (it was on my To-Read list anyway, it just jumped a few places in line).

Having just finished the first book, I was looking into the novellas/short stories as well as the next books. Much to my surprise, I found the series is not finished yet. Since Rothfuss is teaming up with TD, I am assuming you guys have a bit more information on the series being completed before Gen Con. Is this the case? If not, it seems a little odd to have a TD adventure with an unfinished series...

Unless we get to help write it with our adventures?

The Rothfuss fan-verse has been awaiting book 3 for five years and counting - there is no reason to think Rothfuss' limited involvement in theme-ing a story arc in True Dungeon heralds the release of book 3.

Patrick is a TD player, and has been generating some support for his Worldbuilder's charity by selling slots in charity runs of TD for a few years now, and with a portion of token sale proceeds from 2016's UR Kvothe's Bloodless token with TD.

I wouldn't read anything into it other than he's a fan of TD, and he and TD found a way to collaborate.

I bought both of the Ebooks, but I'm hesitant to start them. I'm considering waiting until the final book in the series is out and then reading them all at that time. On the other hand, it would be nice to have read one or two of the books before GENCON next year, so I'll catch all the stuff related to the books. :)

I have to confess that I'm not a huge fantasy fan in general. Yes I love True Dungeon of course but I normally am more into hard sci-fi.

With that being said, this announcement prompted me to read the first two books of the Kingkiller Chronicles and wow I have to say it is one of the best books I have ever read, fantasy or not. If you haven't read it I highly recommend doing so before GenCon 2017.

Now I know what Kvothe's Bloodless is, and how to pronounce it :)
