OK, I'll consider it if I don't get any interest. Thanks!

So I'll bite, is a GT run really worth 1500, like, it's another run, but a run is 1/20 the cost. Can someone please explain?

There are several rewards with GT runs:

1. You are the first to go on the run. Nobody should have any spoilers to ruin it for the others.

2. You get to play with some of the most prominent players in TD. You can learn a lot from them.

3. You get a swag bag with great tokens. I would say last years was worth in the $800 - $1,000 range -- with one of them worth about $400 more than that.

4. Jeff usually adds something special. Last year it was the baby beholders which gave you a bonus in all later runs (if you cared for the baby properly). The year before I think everyone got to shoot bows at targets which could get you the really valuable tokens.

5. This is a big year for True Dungeon and GenCon. Maybe there will be something big.

There is a seperate thread that describes what loot you get

IIRC you also get to do an extra room and possibly an extra roleplay opportunity during the event.

Summary: stuff is worth whatever somebody is willing to pay for it

See http://truedungeon.com/forum?view=topic&catid=5&id=244443 for a list of what one can expect as far as token rewards for going on a golden ticket run. It looks like last year's bags were in the $500-$1000 range for retail value of the content, with maybe 1/40 reward bags in the $1000-$1250 range

I've never gone on one, but from forum posts It seems like most (all?) years there is also a unique extra experience, either an extra room or some other event type thing.

Also, for at least a couple of the GT runs (combats?), they will be filled with the people most willing to spend a lot of money on tokens. I would assume for those people being able to guarantee a time slot outside of the normal Gen Con event hours that they can play on the highest difficulty with other equally top geared players has some monetary value (and one can assume that these are people with rather significant discretionary income to fund multiple eldritch/legendary tokens).

I don't have links, but I think the first GT sold publicly on the forums the last few years has always been in the 1250-1500 range. The price tends to go down after that, so I think you'll find there are a very limited number of people who value them that highly. There is a reported lower chance that the big $8000 buyers can be assured of a GT in their purchases this year due to more buyers, so the pool of potential GT bidders may be higher this year. I suspect nobody is likely to sell one at any time for under $500-$750, as at that point they might as well just turn in the token for the reward bag and not participate in the run.

Difficulty is still decided in the same way. No guarantee on it being nightmare,

The prices tend to steeply decline as time goes on - I wouldn't be surprised to see some go in the $800 range towards the end.

Another factor is it frees up time during Gen Con - it puts 2-3 hours of gaming activity on Wednesday evening, thus freeing up that time during the con itself - that's worth something.

As for the "retail value" of the stuff in the goodie bags - I wouldn't get carried away - the stuff in my goody bag last year would have sold on eBay for maybe $650 on a good day - after eBay/PayPal fees you're down to $585 in value. It's hard to know for sure but it seems to me that this year's volunteer tokens won't command the same prices as the last 4 years did.

I second one of Matthew's points. I'd probably pay $200 for the GT run even if there was nothing else special about it, only because it is a run I get to do outside of normal GenCon hours.

It will be interesting to see how prices work out this year. It's obvious we are getting fewer GTs per dollar spent than normal this year (due to how many $8k pre-orders there have been). I don't know if that will affect prices. It also might be more "awesomer" than usual, but perhaps not.

So, in a reverse auction, you say $1,500 and we give you a lesser amount?

I thought it just meant at some point he may lower the price. He may continue lowering it until someone purchases it or he feels that it is not worth selling at such price.
