You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

The survey was also posted in the GenCon forums:

...

New survey, it's only going to take a minute or two of your time, if you could:

Given significant attendance growth, the Gen Con team is investigating the idea of offering additional conventions in future years. Want to share your feedback on possible expansion? Please take this short survey. Thanks for your help!

Didn't they already try this once, and it failed horribly?

Anyone remember GenCon SoCal? (I actually enjoyed it, but overall attendance was terrible!).

If anything, more conventions provides more options for TD.

Lol - take it up the marimacadmin on the GenCon forums - I was just quoting the post there.

That being said - I gather GenCon so-cal was getting 5k people back in the day. Given that GenCon Indy has skyrocketed from 30,000 to 65,000 from 2010 to 2015, had they kept plugging along in SoCal, it could conceivably be at 10k+ now, which I suspect is sustainable.

We had GenCon South in Jacksonville Beach through the late '70s/early '80s. Small & fun. Nice convention center because it had a balcony all the way around. If you've ever hear me tell the 'ogre' story, that's where it happened.
You still got hit points! Get back in there and fight!!

Out of self-interest I hope they keep it in the midwest.

Re: Chicago, keep in mind the convention center isn't near anything, so walking to it is out (except I think one hotel set up there?), as well as the majority of food options are not near the convention center, which IMHO, make it a bad choice for GenCon.
Winner of a Ring of Focus (that is now a Relsa's Ring of Focus) at Raven's awesome pickpocketing event at TD Tavern in 2008.

Are there any other Chicago area facilities other than McCormick that could host it? Something in the Burbs?

I think the fact that they are asking this question greatly reduces the risk that GENCON will leave Indy. Why risk killing the golden goose, when they can keep GENCON in Indy AND expand somewhere else (or an additional time in Indy)?
