Are you sure it was the Lenses of Clear Sight?

There is also a Charm of the Mirage (+1 to saves vs illusion) which gave a subtle (non-obvious) bonus. I know there was one player who asked about that and I told him he didn't see anything special, but that there was an unknown beneficial effect.

Yeah, I'm sure of the lenses, because I remember wondering: "Well, if they don't work against that, what in the world do they work on?"

There was probably just a miscommunication as to what token was being used or what was being looked at. As mentioned, I recall incidents of:

1. Charm of Mirage being used against the Rakshasa (no "obvious" effect)

2. Lenses of Clear Sight against the Doppelganger (no effect)

3. Lenses of Clear Sight against the Rust Monster/Wizard or illusionary Warrior (something is odd or off but you're not quite sure what).

There was also a case where a Druid was trying to use Lenses of Clear Sight. I asked him if that was what he had initially equipped with. First he said "yes," and then he realizes that he's actually been using the Lenses of Divine Sight the whole time.

Against the Rakshasa, I would have the Lenses of Clear Sight players slide on the middle board each time, and they would always be striking against the "correct" target. (Other players, even those sliding on the same board, might be attacking the wrong target).

Have you looked it up in the TDb ?

Shouldn't there be a little severed limb where the largest damage number is? :P

He did hit a lot harder than that - but that's just his weapons wheel. You're forgetting his +to hit bonus, and his +20 to damage, and his class & racial abilities, like "Dismember" and "Decapitate."

Normal: 10 damage. A 19-20 automatically hits and severs a limb.

Hardcore: 12 damage. An 18-20 automatically hits and severs a limb.

Nightmare: 14 damage. A 17-19 automatically hits and severs a limb. A 20 automatically hits and decapitates.

He also got multiple attacks. (I generally prefer multiple attacks doing less damage rather than a single attack that does massive damage).

2014 Severed Limb Count: 32

2014 Decapitated Head Count: 3

It's only a flesh wound.
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir
