I'd be interested in a Potion of Haste...

Well, the price guide says it goes for 200 GP so I could let you have mine for 210 or so.

NOT :P.
Nah. There's really nothing I need all that badly other than purps that aren't circulating around anyway. I appreciate the offer though :).

Has anyone ever used any of those "Special:? ??" tokens? If so, can you give any insight as to what you gained from it? Thanks!

Never used one but they had different "bonus" powers at each CON.

One CON they got you cursed...one CON you could trade a RED ??? for any other RED token or Green ?? for any other Green, etc. Not sure what the bene was at SoCal last time ???

IF you have the Special ?? or Special ??? from 2003 (they have no symbol on the back side) I would love to trade you something really cool for them.

Sorry, all I have is a single "?" from 2003, and that is not up for trade. Well, send me every single one of your tokens and I'll trade it, but somehow I don't think that you're that gullable. =D

In '05, Special's could be used to reroll any one dice roll that came out a way you didn't like. You got a number of rerolls equal to the number of question marks on the token.

I've never yet managed to acquire a special - maybe my new stacks of Amulets of Armor, Bracers of Defence, and Gauntlets of Ogre Power will help me in my trade efforts for them, but I'm much more interested in the +2 longsword and +3 shield at the moment - and that Wonderous extra hand thing.
Please download the "Price Guide" available inside the Treasure Token section and give it a read. What you will see is a few TDer's guesses as to the perceived value of each token. However, we are seeking good comments and opinions as to how certain tokens should be valued. Please give your "two cents" about any token price that you feel is out of whack.

We will update the "Price Guide" frequently to respond to the great feedback posted. Thank you.

I was recently looking through the TD Token Price Guide (v29) and I did notice something that was a little odd.

The Wand of Cure Light Wounds (5 charges each curing 5 HP) is valued at 350 GP while a Scroll of Cure Light Wounds (for 5 HP) is valued at 80 GP.

Each of the other wands is worth at least 5 times the equivalent scroll/potion (Lightning excepted). So 5 Scrolls of Magic Missile are together worth 100 GP but the Wand of Magic Missiles (with 5 charges) is worth 160 GP. This makes sense because it is more convenient and efficient to carry a single token (the wand) rather than 5 equivalent tokens. An analogous situation exists for the Wand of Melf's Acid Arrow and the Wand of Detect Magic.

The Wand of Cure Light Wounds however seems to differ. Since each Scroll of Cure Light Wounds (+5) is worth 80 GP, five of them would be worth 400 GP. Thus it would seem logical that a Wand of Cure Light Wounds would be worth at least 400 GP, and possibly more. I suppose one possible argument is that the Scroll is usable by Bards while the Wand isn't, but this logic does not seem to apply in the case of Melf's Acid Arrow. So perhaps the Wand is undervalued or the Scroll (+5) is overvalued. Thoughts?
Well, Douglas bases the prices on trades that have been made. I don't imagine that wand has been traded a whole lot, but 350 would represent perhaps the average value it was traded for those times it was exchanged, and the exchange was reported. I'm sure you would be completely justified in asking more for one, and you may get it. If you do, post the trade, and you'll likely see the priceguide begin to adjust to reflect the input from your trade as well.

Thanks for the feedback Incognito.

First, let me say that a new version of the Price Guide will be out shortly (v30). I am collecting and incorporating some last minute data and Evan is right; values are largely based on trades.

Couple of quick comments:

The Wand of Magic Missle is actually a little better than 5x scrolls. The Wand does 5 pts per shot vs. 4 pts for the scrolls. The Melfs and Detect Magic Wands are no longer in print and thus gain some collectibility value.

Having said that, the Wand of CLW is no longer in print as well and should affect the price. And your logic about the value relative to the scrolls if valid. I'll go back through my trades and see what I can find.

Thanks again,
Douglas

Also note: the wand of CLW is only useable by the cleric and druid, whereas the scrolls are usable by the bard as well... that could also explain the value difference.
