TOPIC: Token Price Guide Feedback

Re: Token Price Guide Feedback 18 years 1 month ago #49

I agree the HoA is WAY undervalued. But, 3500 seems extreme.

A friend of mine has one. I was willing to trade him for something that is valued at about $30. So, I guess I would put the value of the HoA at 1000GP. That seems fair to me.

Gary,
I am sorry I misread your post. I thought you said you "traded one in" not that you purchased one. Perhaps 3500 is a bit much but at least 1000 is more reasonable and I would not part with mine without getting much more than that. Yours make 3 in circulation (Since Jeff can print them, his tokens don't count). While you did not pay a lot for it, I think it has greatly increased in value since you purchased it.

An ROR are surely more useful than an Hourglass but they are nearly equal in difficulty to get in trade. I think two RoRs changed hands last year. I am not aware of any player who traded an Hourglass last year. So rating them on usefulness or desireability the RoR wins easily. But on hardness to get, I think their value is much closer.

If you strongly disagree, then after I get my 2006 shipment of token I will be happy to make you an offer at something closer your estimate value.

Isn't the hourglass a red? There should be more than three. Admittedly the first years run of tokens were much smaller, but I would imagine there are more than three. I know one was used at 04' Socal.

Not trying to argue anyones point, just saying that I think there have to be more than 3. But then again, I admittedly know nothing.

I do disagree still George mainly because RoRs are getting $100+ when they eBay, I doubt a HoA would.

Also in that post you may have misread - I said...they were floating around at SoCal...And am I mistaken - were you at the last SoCal??? I know of the one I got and the one a guy pulled from a bag. Just to be clear I'm talking last SoCal '05.

G

Was it one or two George? I am pretty sure I bid on at least two.
There have been no trades for hourglasses on the trade list which is why I think the price is too low.

Ya, but that's like arguing that since I haven't seen any trades ever for the 11 GP piece, so it might really be worth much more too. Some tokens simply don't circulate, mostly the useless stuff. They're only of value to the collectors and so they don't move around much.

If you were actually offering to buy HoH's for 3k value of purps or something, I'm sure youi'd have a good stampede.

Quick comment on something that DD touched on:

The Hourglass of Answers was part of the standard printing run for I believe 2004. I have the specifics on exactly how many are floating around and I'll post tomorrow but I believe it is more like 30+. I also saw someone pull one from a pack in So Cal 2005 (same one that Gary saw?)

But the HoA is a consumable and more or less a useless token in the dungeon. So the value will be exclusive to collecters.

As Henwy mentioned, there haven't been trades (that I have seen) for the HoA. I have one transaction at 200gp trade value. So George, if you are able to sell yours for more, please let me know.

I got mine at GenCon 05 in a bag on either Friday or Saturday when they were making bags out of anything they could find. It looks like they must have done that again at SoCal.

As I remember the story, Hourglasses were not in 2004 bags, they were only given to people that avoided the cryptroom in the dungeon. (I went into the Crypt all three times). There was an alternate room to the crypt that contain the Oracle of Muti. When the Magic Mouth went off most people ran into the Crypt. So while 30 token or so may have been printed, very few actually made it into circulation.

Therefore with the exception of the Hammer and the ring of wishes, the hourglass may well have the least number of tokens in circulation.

On RoRs selling, the two I was talking about one was sold before GenCon and the other was sold at GenCon. So if 3 were sold on E-bay then it looks like a total of 5 were sold in 2005.

On the price: Since you have 200 GP transaction, the price guide is correct but I expect the next hourglass to go for a lot more than that.

I also saw someone pull one from a pack in So Cal 2005 (same one that Gary saw?)

Yep - we were sitting just outside the shop when that happened.

Douglas - you remember what I threw at Kevin for mine??? Was it 3 reds and 5 greens? It was for sure way over 200GP in value.

George,

I'll double check my sources but I do believe the HoA was part of the standard printing for 2004. And if it was given out as part of the prize for solving some part of the dungeon, I believe this was in addition to what was in the bags. In So Cal 2004, I went into the Oracle of Muti (not the Crypt room) but wasn't given the Hourglass.

But one way or another, I believe all of the HoAs printed are now in circulation (if not in 2004 then apparently in 2005). I doubt Jeff is hoarding a stack of HoAs but I could be wrong. :^) So I'll check the exact number that were printed.

Gary, I'm not aware of the specifics of your trade. If you could PM me what you remember, that would be great.

Thanks.

Oh, and one more thing... the Hammer of Foss Altus doesn't actually exist. :^)
