TOPIC: NPC trading question

NPC trading question 18 years 11 months ago #1

Are the NPC Traders going to have fixed prices for the items they trade for?

Or are they going to try to make a market (with the price of popular items rising with demand and unpopular items falling)?

NOW this is the Law of the Jungle — as old and as true as the sky;
And the Wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the Wolf that shall break it must die.

As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk the Law runneth forward and back —
For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.

George,

I don't have the answer to your specific question but here is something to think about...

The commodity board is real - it will be at TD Indy. If it works well it should reflect the current price (in GPs) of any item on the board that is being traded.

This board will change at least twice a day to try to reflect upward or downward trends amongst traders.

Now if NPCs eye-ball this board or not and change their ask price - that is up to TD and maybe the NPCs...???

Unfortunatley the answer is "it depends." Since Jeff has indicated he wants to stay out of the trading arena (making it non commercial and run by the players.) The way an NPC trades will probaly depend on who supplys the tokens.

If TD supplys the tokens, then we would have to follow some given standard (or else we could be accused of inflating prices) the player driven trading board makes sense.

If the NPC (following a few TD rules) trades his or her own tokens, then pricing is how they decide to play it, so to speek. If they can get a player to pay twice as much for a +1 great sword that should be OK. Again provided the trading stock does not come from TD.

This is just my opinion however, Jeff will ahve to make the call, sorry.
