TOPIC: carrying tons of different tokens in the dark...

carrying tons of different tokens in the dark... 18 years 11 months ago #1

So does anyone have some tips on how they organize their different tokens? I only bought 3 bags last year, and still had a hell of a time trying to find different items/scrolls etc, in the dark most of the time no less. I was thinking of using some of those plastic coin holder pages, but carrying a three-ring binder around the dungeon doesn't sound all that much fun to me. Too bad there is no such things as a real-life magic Haversack.

I played the wizard last year... So I figured, the best way to look the part AND effectively organize my tokens was to take my numerous bags and consolidate them.

I put all my gold/gems in the white bag, all my offensive scrolls in the red bag, and all my miscellaneous scrolls in the black bag. I had another white bag with potions and other useful items like holy water and flint & steel. I improvised by tying all the pouches to my Gen Con badge holder and memorizing which pouch was where, so I didn't have to look. Then, when I needed something, I only had to sort through a few tokens from a particular bag. It was very impromtu, but it worked. Hopefully this year I'll have a few more pouches this year, and hopefully ones that look a bit nicer (no offense TD folks).

Currently I have 6 pouches that hold tokens...Pouch 1 is what I call Tavern - it holds rumors and a SPECIAL - it goes away after I leave the tavern. Pouch 2 holds scrolls, Pouch 3 potions, Pouch 4 cures and Cleric spells, Pouch 5 items, Pouch 6 Magic/armor/weapons.

To manage all 6 - I place 2 smaller pouches into one medium - thereby I only have 2 medium pouches on my belt.

This may change a bit - for example part of my costume has a large belt "pocket pouch" that currently is empty (I could put urgent tokens in that "pocket pouch" - but for now I am pretty happy with the 6 pouch set-up.

Interesting topic. :)

What I am looking into is purchasing "Pog sheets" that were popular in the 90s. Basically, plastic protective sheets that you can insert pogs (or plastic disks) into and I am assuming TD Tokens as well. Then these pages can be in a binder of some sort. I have some coming in the mail but if it works, I think this would be the most effective way to store and track tokens in the dungeon.

Also, for a wizard sort of adds the feeling like opening a tome of spells and such.

Maybe this is something that TD can sell at GenCon? Maybe even make a buck or two! ;^)

I'd be interested in knowing if the pog sheets work - they could be a bit snug.

If they do work - this sounds much better than the hunt and peck in a pouch method.

Drill a hole through each one and make a charm necklace out of them. Blashpemy I know! (*runs and ducks for cover) I'm just trying to offer up ideas. I wouldn't recommend altering the tokens, but I've seen people do strange things.

My point is, it would be interesting to "wear" some of the more permanent token "items" such as rings, cloaks, armor, etc. Then have perishable items such as scrolls and other equip in another easy access format.

Last year I saw some who had tucked certain tokens into the clear GenCon badge holder for easy reading and access.

(I picture Gary with oh about... 20 of those holders around his neck. :P )

I resemble that remark!

Hey on a side note - didn't we have a string started for our INDY group?

I can't find it anyplace and we should prob talk about what day we all are buying tickets for...

Coins :!: Tokens are basically "coins".

 Look into coin collecting supplies. They have all types of coin holders, sleeves, pages, pockets, and for the truly wonderous tokens, plastic hard cases.

Here are just a few samples after only a moment of googling.

I guess if we are throwing out all our secrets for token storage etc.

There are some fantastic poker chip holders out there.

I started with a bake-o-lite spinning style - and then switched to small 200-300 cases.

I have found that poker chip tubes are not very good for TD tokens as they are just snug enough to cause issues when trying to get the bottom 2-3 tokens to come out.

I have yet to find the old pog tubes that I have stashed away for my kids, but I imagine they are snug as well.
