TOPIC: The value of Ultra Rare Tokens

I would like to start discussion on what folks thinks the ultra rare tokens are worth. Remember that Friday and Saturday we had massive inflation which drove the gold price of many items through the roof. For instance full plate and Elixirs of healing were selling for 900-1000 gold.

Lets do the easy ones first.

The gems I think are work about 25% over their face value.
I would pay 375-400 GP for the 300 GP gem
500 GP 400 GP gem
625 GP 500 GP gem
(in fact I did buy an emerald from a vendor for 600)

The Potion of healing 10 HP is the least valuable item to me. I would not pay more than about 400 GP for one (and only then as a collector)
I traded with a player to get one. I gave 2 potions of healing 5 HP and two other items (I
think a cloak +1 and maybe a +1 short sword)

I am not sure what a scroll of flying would be worth except to a collector. I guess you could have used it on the chess board puzzle so it must be worth 500 GP but I would never get in bidding war over this one.

The Necklace of Fireballs is nice but like any consumable it limited value. I paid 800 Gold for mine on Saturday. I think it is really work maybe the same as 3 good wands.

The permanent could be worth a lot more.

I have a slightly different idea about this. I wouldn't trade any of my purples for simply gold, not even the one that I have multiples of: my 2 cure light wounds. On the other hand, I would trade purples for purples. I think that making prices for them would actually be somewhat useful, in that, I would love to be able to think about making some trades with them, but I have no idea how much the things are worth at this point.

I agree that gems should be 100 gp above face value. Maybe for the items that are not super useful, they should have a +100gp bling bling value.
So, fly should be worth maybe 200 g.p. + 100 g.p. making it worth 300 g.p. The potions should be worth something more than 2 potions of cure lights, as they can save a character from instant death in not solving a room, maybe they might be worth 3? They were going for something like 125 g.p., so the purple potion should be worth 500 g.p.
The +2 weopons were going for 1000 for the dagger up to 2000 for the longsword. Here one might use the guide and multiply the price by 8, giving something like 800 for the dagger, 1200 for a quaterstaff, 2000 for a longsword, and 1350 for all the other weopons.
As for the cloak, I think that it is better than any other item, and alters combat significantly. I think that it might be worth about 4000. I know that it was going for less in the tavern, but this is how much I think it should be worth, if the longsword is worth 2000.
What do others think?

It's almost pointless to try to norm purple token prices. Too few of them to establish what would be a 'going price' and sales are likely to be very few and far between. I am sorta curious where they came from though...I mean, how many were in th tavern and which ones those were as opposed to ones in the dungeon, etc. Does that count as a spoiler? I hav no clue if TD will keep the same locations and setup for them. If anyone knows where some were, drop me a PM and lets compare notes. I hav an unsatisfied curiosity about the matter.

None came from the Tavern. All were found in the dungeon.
Some were sold by players to the Tavern.

I agree that is no way to establish specific prices but I think a general range can be established (say +/- 300 gp). I had one person asking for 1000 GP for a emerald and perhaps he found a buyer at the price but that was way too much for me.

In my mind there are 4 Best of the best items. +1 Plate mail, Girdle of Hill Giant Strength, +2 Long sword and ring of Evasion. These items will get a very large premium.

Ok all let me break it down to you on the 2005 UR set and what I traded for em

Dagger +2

Quarter staff +2

Short Sword +2

Long sword +2

Greatsword +2

Great Axe +2

Heavy Repeating Crossbow +1

Ruby(300gp)

Sapphire(400gp)

Emerald(500gp)

Scroll: Fly (lasts one room)

Gloves of Dex (+2 Dex and can be worn with Bracers of Archery)

Ring of Protection +1

Ring of Evasion (allows a saving throw for no damage against any effect that allows for a Reflex saving throw to avoid at partial damage)

Girdle of Hill Giant Str (+3 to Str and stacks with Gauntlets of Ogre Power for +5 Total)

Cloak of Displacement (50%miss chance)

Potion of Cure Lt. Wounds (Cures 10 hp)

+1 Full Plate (+9 to AC)

Necklace of Fireballs( 8 pts damage/up to 5 charges if at max)

I traded about 147 very rares and easily 217 rares putting the the most costly trade being 2500 gp for full plate +1 with the handfull of scrolls thrown into the mix. I made certain that. the player knew exactly what they had whipped out a copy of the TD price guide and proceed to outfit entire partys to nearly optimum status for his group. Trades dropped much lower when I had what I was looking for but I was still happy to make reasonable trades to other players. My desciption might have been a bit heavy handed on the value of UR token because I made comparison between the ring of regeneration and daily wages a person might earn if they had spent 8-12 hours a day (with overtime for each hour put in above 8 on any given day so worked.) While this might be regarded as an unfair description I felt it emphasized the offers I would make. Whe a token went down in value to me because I had acquired it I made sure the person was aware of this and usually pointed him over to George or one of the other people to get a more for their UR. George also traded quite fairly as well. I watched a few of his transaction and must say we had an excellent gentlemans agreement between us.

George,

No Cloak of Displacement in your Top 4?

My top 4... (from a die-hard Cleric's point of view)

1. Cloak of Displacement
2. Girdle of HG strength
3. Ring of Evasion
4. Full Plate +1 or Ring of Protection...but Plate +1 replaces normal plate I wear and the +1 ring would be bumping my ring of feather falls...

Honorable mention the 500GP Emerald - Pretty PRETTY Green stone!

Of course this list would ADJUST if there was a +2 Heavy Mace in the collection *subtle hint to Jeff*...hehehe

The problem with me using a sharpy is that I would end up with a "+2 Weapon of unreadableness"
