Well since new character cards are being done. . .

<pixie silliness>
I'd like to lobby for Pixie Character!
Must have irresistable dance in their abilities!

Well Jeff did hint there would be two new character classes. Lets all root for pixies as one of the two.

Base armor class would have to be about 25 due to size and flight.

The only problem would be the pixie would only have 2 or 3 HP. So if the pixie is hit you are going to need a death door potion.

But if I pixie used drank a potion, there still would be nearly a full potion flask left. Say 10 pixies uses from a single potion token.

Pixie Dust is only UR to you mortals, not us pixies. ;)

And don't forget us pixies are very nimble so we have high dex. And being so small and quick we are near impossible to catch, let alone hit. ;)
And just you try to make your saving throw when we 'charm'. =D

Henwy, I have really got to disagree with you on this one. The game at it's base has to be playable by the casual gamer.

There are clearly two basic groups to content with. The majority play it and think about it once a year, may have some tokens, or might not. There's also a very vocal small minorty outfitted with all reds, partly purples, or all purples, who significantly support TD with their token purchases. And, then there's the group in between. Why not make the game cater to each of these two dominant groups.

I would like to propose something. Let's make the "normal" set of character cards for the majority of players who can not rely on their tokens. Make the "normal" game doable with nothing but a single bag of random tokens per player. This was the way the game was originally conceived and, I am convinced, a significant part of why it has become "the" event of GenCon.

Then, let's look at the most tricked out purple power builds of each character class. Assuming these tricked out builds, make a second set of character cards, with a big red "hardcore" accross then. Make the stats and such for these cards such that with them fully tricked out, they are the same as the "normal" set. So, for example, if we assume the fighter without anything in normal could get his hands on a greatsword and half plate mail, and on hardcore +1 plate and +2 greatsword, then we equalize things:
Let's say the new fighter base is str 14, dex 12 make the hardcore base str 10, dex 8. And, of course, make the monsters and traps harder.

It's what I feel is the best solution to the law of diminishing returns (aka token suicide) and the problem of creep or nothing. I seriously don't think the lowered stat idea would address either, since most people simply wouldn't do it and sidestep the problem altogether.

Besides, the changes I'm advocating are that things should be scaled anyway. Think of it this way. Healing avaliability through tokens has increased from (13/40*1 + 5/40*2 + 1/40*7) .75 to (13/40*1 + 10/40*2 + 2/40*7) 1.175 per bag. Considering a group of 8, that's an increase from an average of 6 points of healing to 9.4, a 56.6% increase in the amount of token based healing avaliable. Since healing is more avaliable and survival rates are up, it's a very good reason to drop the amount of healing provided by the characters themselves for various reasons to compensate. If more tokens are used, more will be purchased and small changes are unlikely to upset the balance, while providing for an experience that integrates tokens more fully into the run, something that is in TD's best interests.
Although henwy, if we completely threw out the old tokens that would solve the power creep problem wouldn't it? ;-)

Not a completely unworkable idea. It'd have to be understood from the beginning though that tokens have only a certain 'shelf life' and it'd probably also mean you couldn't sell them for as much.

I think it would have to be staplemade chainmail. paperclips are too big. and you can use thumbtacks as spiked shields. Hershy Kiss paper for scrolls, the wrapper to make mithril plate.

Looks like some classes are getting ganked. Monk is probably DoA for the PhB. Druid too. Based on the designer quotes, there will be 8 core classes in the PhB. Some are already confirmed:

Fighter
Cleric
Wizard
Rogue
Warlock
Warlord

So basically two slots left if I'm reading the designer whozit correctly. Most likely to take them are the ranger and paladin, since both have more mentions and examples with their playtesting of the core rules. Not to mention, both are cited in the core 'roles' breakdown.

It's funny really. I was deadset against 4th, but you can't help reading some of this and becoming interested and feeling some amount of anticipation. It's all idealistic at the moment and everything has the potential to be perfect. We won't get to see the dog's dinner they made of it for half a year yet. The date for the PhB to be locked in (sans playtesting changes) was October 5th, so at least the classes and other major whozits are set in stone now.

Are you kidding me? Do you know how poorly staples link up? And have you ever seen a pixie try and use you mortals staplers. We can jump up and down all day long on those things and nothing happens!

A thumbtack?
Sure it may give you a hand to hold onto, but as soon as you go to block one blow the tack ends up stabbing you!
Everyone knows that pixies use buttons as their targes!

And NOOOooo! Am allergic to chocolate!
You use gumwrappers for that! Plus then you smell minty fresh all day.

Shesh, don't you mortals know anything about pixies?

What's the diff between a fighter and a warlord? A wizard and a warlock (is that like a sorceror?)
