TOPIC: Heavy Repeating Crossbow

Heavy Repeating Crossbow 18 years 10 months ago #1

I was actually thinking of missle weapons earlier and what occasions
in which they might become useful. I was imagining some monsters across
the chasm from last year that the party might have to fend off with
missle weapons...
This made me think; one of the adventures is in a dungeon and one is
in a tower. I don't have any idea what the layout would be like in the
hotel, but wouldn't it be cool if the tower adventure actually took the
party upstairs to another level at some point (most hotels have open
areas with wrap around stairs in them)?
Archers could fire down at a monster from a 2nd floor stairwell into
the open area below, to help out the other party.

I think the original idea behind only allowing Fighters to use the HRC was to make them special, the "weapons experts". It also separates them more from Paladins.

-Douglas

Per my understanding, that is exactly why this was limited to the Fighter.

Dave

You're suggesting that what makes fighters special compared to paladins is that they can use the RHC? That's ridiculous beyond belief. Fighters aren't even best known for range weapons. You want to make fighters special? They should have restricted the greatsword +1 or greataxe +1 or platemail. All of those would fit far more with fighter and be less patently ridiculous to boot.

Great idea, but not this time, unfortunately. It is all in one huge open ballroom (or should I say 10 or so combined)

There is a video clip (at least there used to be) of the room...somewhere off the main page or was it the INDY write up section...?

Patently ridiculous assessments aside..., this one was Jeff's call, not mine.

I might suggest you are focusing too much on the literal. It really doesn't matter what the weapon actually is, with the token the fighter can do 1d10 at a distance every round if he wishes, but only he can use the item because of strength, (or pick your reason if you do not like that one).

Henwy,

While I personally don't agree with the decision, I'd say your comment is a bit extreme.

IMHO, the Great Axe should be (d12) and only usable by Fighters. Paladins can use Great Sword (d10) or Shield/Long Sword (d8 ) and HRC should be usable by Fighter/Paladin/Ranger.

The Americans with Disabilities Act makes this extremely unlikely.

And the Wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the Wolf that shall break it must die.

As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk the Law runneth forward and back —
For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.

The disabilities act only applies to public buildings, not privately held events. But in any case, I'm sure TD does not want to leave anyone out of the enjoyment.
