I'll be fascinated to see how much the completed dragon orb thingamabob sells for on the open market--and if anyone will actually pay for it.

I'll be fascinated to see how much the completed dragon orb thingamabob spawns in terms of forum outrage, when (if) it turns out to be "just a cool little perk" and nothing major at all.

Perhaps I'm reading into things, but my impression of the original (unannounced, unexpected) Orb which appeared in 8K orders was that Jeff didn't expect it would be a "big deal" ... just a little treat for the big buyers to collect, but nothing to make a fuss about.

Now, with Orbs selling for hundred of dollars, there will be a lot of pressure (particularly from people who spent a couple grand to collect them) for the coolness factor the be at Ro7P levels.

Or I could be wrong, and Jeff already has something amazing in mind ; )

Soulbond: Dragon Harrier - You are being harried by the dragon you raised, start each adventure -10 HP, or sacrifice one treasure.

(-20 and 2 treasure for the 7 orb version)

:)

But seriously, so long as it's slotless and flavorful I think it will be fine, even if it's exceptionally minor, like it transmutes to a dragon familiar with a d10 damage wheel that you may slide instead of a weapon in combat.

On the flip side, Orbs of Dragonkind in D&D are very powerful items, right up there with RoSP.

I think the comment Jeff made on the forums was something along the lines of "geeky true dungeon fun" and the general context made it seem like these wouldn't be uber powerful in game. If this is how it turns out and people get upset I won't have much sympathy for them.

How would you not be able to afford the ring if you are buying the orbs. 2 orbs and you are already at the cost of the ring.

I hope it is a minor fun ability like Jeff said and that it doesn't morph into something much more powerful, like the Artifacts did.

I won't be surprised if this is a case where the transmuted item is worth less than the individual orbs cost combined.

The ring goes for about $1400-1600.
Each new orb goes for about 500-600, but only once per year.

He isn't going back and buying the expensive older ones.

Not sure how much you are paying for orbs but I am not paying that much. I budget about 1k every year for tokens and I sell off some of the tokens I don't use on consignment. I can upgrade a relic into a legendary and get a few pyp and a orb every year. I am only getting a set of 5 and in the end it will cost me less then a ring. The number of 8k orders has gone up with people pooling, I could never afford the first 2 years orbs but I committed to buy most of my tokens before the set had even finalized development.

I may be the only one, but I really, really hope that, unlike the RoSP, the Orbs do not have to be transmuted. They could just grant set bonuses. The tokens are way too cool to send to the dump.

You could use your 8-piece for a year or two, and maybe decide 5 is enough and trade some parts off.

You could start with a 5-piece, then shop around and upgrade to the 8. If you transmute the small one, there’s no easy way to track which five you used, so you’re committed.

You could get two extra Orbs, and run with 5-piece sets with your SO, but use 8 when s/he’s not around. (Yes, I would totally do that.)

But some of these might not apply, depending on what they eventually do.
