Personally, I'd rather he didn't make far-off proclamations. It's too limiting. If for reasons beyond Jeff's control the plans have to be changed, the level of butthurt goes off the charts.

Yes, there most certainly will.
The thing is--again, speaking personally, not as any kind of TD representative--if you* make an assumption and that assumption doesn't come to fruition, that's nobody's fault but your own! It's really hard for me to muster any sympathy for that kind of decision. If you want to gamble, fine, but when you lose, recognize it was your your choice to place the bet.

I get it.

Just saying, some turned their AoTFs into COAs. They’ll be sad if there’s no reprint.

Some are hoarding them. They’ll be sad if there is.

I suppose both groups “gambled.” I have more sympathy for the first than the second. But I suppose they’ll both be okay in the end.

Yes. Did I say otherwise? I said it pegs the price to a low, PyP price for 2 years. After that it might appreciate again.

I'm not sure what point you are trying to make here - I think we both agree that a literal infinite number of tokens is not being printed in any case. I never claimed there were, you introduced infinity in an attempt to explain why reprints aren't bad or harmful.

I explained that due to the peculiar nature of TD reprints, where chase items are made available in unlimited supply for 2 years, reprinting in TD is not the same as any other collectible I am familiar with.

In fact, making something available at a fixed price for a 2 year period every few years seriously erodes any collectibility. It's becomes just a good with seasonal availability, like the Shamrock Shake at McDonalds.

The cost of something has no bearing on whether it's a collectible. If it did my iPhone would be collectible, and my revised edition Lifelace wouldn't be.

I paid $250 for my "collectible" $90 +1 Mighty Longbow.

I hope you never see a token in your collection take a $160 price haircut pretty much overnight, and then have to listen to people explain to you how your token is still "collectible"!

True Dungeon could certainly reprint every token that appreciates. Even if they did, those tokens would still be collectible.

A reprint =/= infinity more released into circulation.

Actually - basically it does.

This is because with TD PyP's get into circulation by selection as a PyP.

If AoTF were reprinted but only available via random chance in 1/20,000 packs (which is their natural collation rate), or a handful thrown into the treasure boxes, that would be fine for me.

When a reprint happens in TD, the price of the token is pegged to ~$90 overnight, where it stays for at least 2 years.

This is different from reprints in Magic the Gathering or other collectibles.

To see an illustration, within the last 2 years +1 Mighty Longbow was going for $250+ on eBay.

Today I doubt you could sell one for $101.

'PYP = $90 for two years' simply is not true. While i agree that such a statement makes sense, we have seen that to not be the case. Many URs have sold for over $100 while they are still in print...and as someone who buys and sells tokens, i find it very frustrating. Why are people paying that much? But we digress...i believe ypur point was that a reprint results in immediate lost value, which is true, but no need to exaggerate the impact it has.

PYP = $90 for two years is true enough.

Recent auctions prove this to be false. Im not trying to dispute your main point, just that the $90 fixed price is an unfounded exaggeration. I sold PYPs at pre-sale time for $90 and regretted not charging 95 once i saw that PYPs were consistently going for more than 90.

Fair enough - it sounds like we agree that reprinting a desirable token sets its value to whatever the going rate for a PyP is for 2 years, which is around $100, give or take $10.

I am mildly confused about the angst over this as a reprint. It would seem more likely that other TE tokens will come out int 2023 and 2025. The CoA transmute used a point system, and it would make sense for any future TE transmute to do likewise, with points for whatever TE come out in 2023 and 2025. Maybe the AoTF and HoP would be a slightly higher point value, but the transmute could still be made with TE from that time frame. There is no need to reprint AoTF, but the new ones could be used just as easily.

The present CoA provides 11-13 treasure coins depending on the number. Maybe the new transmute just provides 11, so the original CoA still retains value. Who knows, but hopefully we will be around in 10 years to argue about it.

We are in agreement. I was countering the comment below where you seemed to argue that a reprint basically meant infinity more released into circulation.

As long as there is someone out there who wants to collect the reprint, it will still be a collectible.

If you don't think your +1 Longbow is collectible anymore, you should probably trade it away at the community swap for an UR you deem to be collectible. I'm sure there are others who feel otherwise.

I'm a new collector, but I've gone out and paid & traded for plenty of out of print ultra-rares. I'll be subject to haircuts o plenty.

No hostility intended. I just disagree with your assertions regarding reprints. Let's just agree to disagree.

Seriously, we will absolutely argue about this in 8 to 10 years. It's what we do. I'm sure we can find other things to get worked up about now.

My point was that if we get some guidance on the reprint status now, it would head off arguments and hurt feelings in 8 years. And people could base their decisions and actions now on facts instead of speculation.

It could even be some sort of middle ground announcement, like saying the AoTF won't be reprinted before 2030, but after that it might or might not be reprinted.

That said, I'd totally understand if Jeff didn't want to pin himself down 8 years in advance.

that would back him into a corner...it would force it one way or another. He shouldnt have to state that. Because 8-10 years is a long time away
