Gauntlets of the Midgard Serpent

Potion Polymorph Asp

As I am sorting my uncommons I saw what could be a cool combo, but then started thinking about the rules in general, so...

1) tokens such as Gauntlets of the Midgard Serpent and ANY polymorph: Does the drawback still trigger? on the polymorph potion entries, they specifically say that the druid retains all bonuses and penalties RECORDED ON THE PARTY CARD. but does that imply that penalties not on the party card are not retained?
I expect this was not the intention, as there likely is/will be a drawback that should not be so easily avoided. also, it would raise the question of other beneficial item (would cloak of shadowskin not work while polymorphed?).

2) assuming polymorph in general does not negate the poison damage from the gauntlets; using the potion polymorph asp WILL negate that poison damage, correct? or is there some rule that self-inflicted damage is always unpreventable?
I would strongly suggest that there is not a self-inflicted exception to damage prevention (if you need a specific item to be unpreventable, call it 'sacrifice' instead of 'damage'). and this is just from a game design standpoint...finding little combos like this is fun and interesting.

yes

no
If penalties were not retained,it would specifically say so.

correct

I suppose this could change in the future, but for now, no such rule exists. (I know of no plans to implement such a rule.)

You may be thinking of a question that was recently asked about Shaed and Mad Evoker's Charm . In that case, the crux of the argument was that Eldritch damage can't be prevented, not that self-inflicted damage is inherently unavoidable.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?

I think the explanation was to cover cases like: Druid with +1 Scimitar polymorphs, so Druid retains the +1 to hit.

Extra HPs (obviously a bonus) are not recorded on the party card, but I’ve never heard it suggested that (for instance) polymorphing while at 8 HP could kill you because your Charm of Synergy would stop working.
