TOPIC: Feedback Needed: Token Player Mat

Feedback Needed: Token Player Mat 6 years 5 months ago #1

Based on some feedback from players, I have been working on some ideas for a "token planning player mat" similar to the one we have in the coaching room, but printed on a nice mousepad material (just like they make for various card games). It would be 14" x 24". I'm looking to gather interest; if interested I'd love to hear how many you would want to buy and a price range you think is reasonable. If there is enough interest to get to the proper price point then I'll order a bunch and I think it will be a nice accessory to the game that we love.

I've been working with two people to create two designs that were developed largely independently. I won't out who they are but they can do so themselves if they want to. Neither design is quite final (for example one still needs the new bead slot) but this should be enough to give you an idea on what the finished product would look like (note these samples are not full resolution or quality; the real mats will be much crisper). If you want to share what you do and don't like about each design that would also be a plus because we may end up creating a new design incorporating the best aspects of each of them.

So... only guys play TD?

No offense, but I wouldn’t pay much for a mat that will be obsolete in two years max when another extender is printed or slot opens up.

If this is successful then I'd love to have both male and female adventurer's pictured, along with perhaps over time multiple classes. Perhaps a male and female version of each character class each year, for 12 years.

Yes there will be new slots of course, but it doesn't immediately make the current mats unusable IMO.

Or at least people who enjoy looking at guys...

But seriously, if you plan on selling these Kirk, I'd recommend dude and dudette options.

Also, add the Bead slot.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?

I just wouldn't think there would be much market because I would imagine most folks that spend money on tokens would be using the app(s)/spreadsheet and don't have need for the player mat. I wish you luck though. This is not a knock at doing something new but more of an additional plug for those digital versions of character builder. :)

The graphic on the original online builder was androgynous, IIRC. If you avoid cakes of both flavors (cheese and beef), you could probably get away with just one.

But I’m with Jedi. If you make these, I highly recommend you use on-demand printing like Red Bubble or something. Stocking them in bulk feels waaay risky.

But since you asked “how much,” I would go... no, I don’t think you really want to know.

I would go with Option B, but I would like a better figure in the middle, maybe a more unisex and fully armored/clothed individual. I would also like a header and a border design. I would pay $20 for one.

I prefer the layout of A.

I would buy 1. Maybe 2. Somewhere in the $20-40 range seems fine.

It would be cool if you could work with Jeff to get some official TD art.
Classes Played: Barbarian (65 times), Monk (56), Ranger (33), Rogue (25), Cleric (21), Fighter (13), Druid (12), Paladin (11), Dwarf Fighter (10), Bard (7), Elf Wizard (2), Wizard (2)

I agree with Jedi here but best of luck. Id put a price of 20 at most since you could just order a custom playmat and use the graphic offered on TD's site to get your own for around that.

Option B layout is great. I think it would allow more people to use them around a table. Would prefer a different figure though, and one with more clothes.

I'd buy anywhere between 7-10 of them. $20-$30 seems reasonable.

These would be great for my kids and their friends. I would also have a few handy at the Con's as I could see them being nice visual tools when explaining Token equipment and the various slots to newbies.

I’m a down-sizer. The less I have now the happier and complete I feel. Thank you, digital age for this!

I wouldn’t buy any since I have even better on Cranston’s app.

I think this could work well, but not in the current form.

Remove the guy... go with the simple background not an image. I would go with the old map or parchment background, maybe burnt edge effects, similar to the official mat. Your option 2 is ok, could use some work.

If you want to use art go with a drawing of a human or dragon or something...

The purple color is odd for the dragon token slots.

I planned on buying some of these, would not buy in the current form.
