TOPIC: Legendary Armor Set Bonus

I don't know if this idea was dismissed or just lost in all the hammer discussions, but I think it would be neat to have class specific abilities for the dwarf fighter, fighter, and paladin if they equip the entire set of legendary redoubt armor.

It could be something big or small, but another reason to build towards 3 legendary tokens.

AC is nice, but, at least for now, doesn't seem to be all that important, particularly at the legenday level.

I'd totally support this concept, especially if the coaches don't need to worry about it (ideally the DMs wouldn't either).

Set bonuses at Legendary could help define some class distinctions and make them "more special" for some classes than others. I'd be in favor of this.

I support this wholeheartedly! As someone who primarily plays fighter types, I find myself with little motivation to upgrade my shield and armor to to the legendary level because...

1) As it is, I am already very hard to hit.
2) It's really expensive to do so.

Therefore, I'd suggest the proposed set bonus be something extraordinary and NOT related to AC.

Ok, I'll take a stab:

Paladin: Shrug it Off - 1/combat ignore the damage from one hit that you took from guarding another player.

Dwarf Fighter: Bring it On - 1/combat take half damage from monster you have taunted

Fighter: I've Picked Up a Few Tricks - pick up unclaimed character card in coaching room. 1/room you can use an ability from that card. (Let's face it, Fighters don't have anything cool, so give them more of a bump).

All could easily be scaled down to 1/game if too powerful. And yes, I realize the Fighter one is a little extreme.

I am totally in support of this idea. Just gaining additional ac doesn't create a great desire to move up from the relic levels of each helm, chest, shield. The main draw for those at the relic level is that you Removes the save penalty, which honestly is used more often than being targeted for ac.

Thumbs up to this idea that originated from the token discussion forums, but didn't see much feedback until now.

For the Paladin I had hoped to be able to wear the amulet of Guarding for free (and some other small bonus) as it dovetails into the legendary role quite well of protecting players with their high AC.

But building in a shadow skin cloak effect is cool too. Maybe both? That would be legendary :)

To play devil's advocate:

1) Don't set bonuses make it more difficult for Coaches & DM's? Adding one or more Legendary Set bonuses adds complexity.

2) Is it even necessary? People upgrading to the Legendary Armor set already will have the bonus of having the highest AC available, plus the Redoubt Set bonuses. That is already pretty awesome, maybe adding set bonuses on top of that is overkill.

3) It would make it seem like one more thing helping out the top 1%. I'd rather save set bonuses for sets that are accessible at the lower rarities as well, like the Redoubt Set bonus already does.

How about the Pal can guard a extra player,
One room, or maybe always.
You can still use amulet of Guarding and defend up to three players.

You raise great points Mike.

The 1% argument is the one I was most worried about, as we don't want it to be a 'pay to win' effect.

I would argue that most other legendary items are preferred to the armor set right now. Weapons are obvious, though spellcasters getting spell damage, healing boosts, and in some cases polymorph bonuses are very strong. The focus ring is also great. The robe added INT and CHA boosts to give classes more powers.

The Relic level removing the -2 to saves is a fine level to stop at unless you really want that +2 AC, which, IMO, doesn't do a whole lot.

I was looking to give the 3 classes that can do it a little boost, particularly the human fighter, as Fiddy pointed out. It would have been nice to help out the Cleric as well, but they aren't on the legendary shield.

As for set bonuses making things more complicated, I think if we decide this is a good idea, we could find something static that goes on the party card that doesn't make things harder for the DMs or Coaches.

In regards to the overkill argument, I don't know. The redoubt bonus is great, but AC just isn't all that important in a party of 10.

I guess I'd recommend that if extra AC isn't important to someone, maybe they should focus on getting a different Legendary instead of the Redoubt Armor set, rather than make the Legendary Armor set give you the best AC possible AND something else.

That's completely reasonable as an argument, though I would disagree.

I think that we want people to be making all the legendary items, and perhaps we should reward them if they do so.

I could see the bonus being something specific to each class, or something generic, like an additional +2 to strength and +2 saves.

I love the idea of class specific ones though.
