TOPIC: Token Guide Compendium (2003-2016) "volume 1"

Token Guide Compendium (2003-2016) "volume 1" 6 years 7 months ago #1

All,

I have worked through overcoming three years of lethargy on my part with updating the guide. It got away from me in 2014 and took me until now to get the time to fully update it.

Pretty soon it will be posted to the site, but I think the site pages and links need some cleaning up first, so it may have to wait until the site folks can make the updates.

When it comes out, know that I am sure there are issues. I was dealing with a lot of token entries to update so it could very well be that there are some that are missed, it is a forest for trees issue and I just may not see the errors, so I depend on you to let me know when you find stuff.

Also, since the guide will now be over 300 pages, it is getting quite cumbersome to edit and combine (pushing the limits of my system to render, etc.) so we have decided to call this version a "compendium" label it volume 1, and restrict it (mostly to 2003-2016 tokens and concepts) so other than a few places where I crossed the line to 2017 changes (like to the trade items) I tried, and mostly succeeded, to constrain the write up to what we would know, had I done this last year.

I will then work on a "volume 2" of the compendium, starting over with the 2017 tokens and split out the collectors matrix to a spreadsheet. That will come out as soon as I can carve the time to work on it.

Thank you again for your patience and support.

Dave

It looks like the new "Token Guide Compendium, Volume 1" has been posted to the site.

It was getting cumbersome to edit so we are closing off the first volume to include 2003-2016 and Volume 2 will start with 2017.

SWEEEET! Thanks so much for all the work it takes to do this. If we find any issues (or have questions), should we report them here?

Dave, I have identified & possess numerous other woodie misprints I look forward to discussing with you sometime, including some that don't quite fit in the category of the wrong year's back.

It might be worth mentioning that there is at least one Chip misprint as well. The Dire Squid Ink Monster Ingredient Token was printed with the Trade Item Token template for the Gold Ticket run, it's very neat. :)

I wonder if the Librium of Looting variant title for the Libram of Looting token fits in the misprint category as well.

Nicely done Dave!

The only thing I noticed was in the daggers section. There's a bit about them being used as thrown weapons. The Viper Strike daggers and the Thrall Kris daggers cannot be thrown.

There might be some confusion (definitely on my part) about what it means for a token to be "retired", as page 319 lists. Does it mean it is currently unusable - like the silver and electrum bars? Platinum and adamantium are listed as retired in 2016, but they can technically be used (via exchange) until Dec 2018.

I initially made the connection that "retired" tokens are also "obsolete" - since the TDb has the reserve tokens listed as such. However, this would make Arcane Recipe and Feedback Loop obsolete. I can see that Arcane Recipe could be considered obsolete, since I think that process is discontinued - but Feedback Loop's mechanics (contrary to other "obsolete" tokens like Scroll Light, Potion Darkvision, Special (C/UC/R), Lore, and Truecraft) can still be performed.

Also, the TGC lists Scroll Detect Magic as obsolete, but Potion Detect Magic and Wand Detect Magic don't have that sentence. I'm not sure whether all three should be obsolete or not - but if one is, it makes sense to me for the others to be, too.

Thanks for this valuable resource!
