TOPIC: Tokens to 'keep out' for Room DMs

Tokens to 'keep out' for Room DMs 6 years 8 months ago #1

So .. usually a few times a year someone from one of my groups gets asked to check a token'
[Last year Dennis made us show when everyone in the party was wearing a shadowskin cloak :P I don't BLAME him mind you .. I'm sure it was super annoying.] Of course, I had put them all away ..

This year .. I had a friend of mine make sashes! YES! I shall shame my groups by making them nerd out and wear sashes! I've sewn / velcroed some silver eagle holders onto them .. #nerdTrain!

I'm thinking that I will put shadow skin cloaks, and the other 'saving' cloaks for anyone that is brooched.
the thief stuff for the rogue, And figurines.

Room coaches .. what else would you like to easily verify? teeth? [not like I've *EVER* had anyone use psychic powers yet.] bard instruments? The Amulet of Guarding?

Digging through books is a waste of time. Anything I can do for a room coach to let them worry about combat, or math, rather than 'is this dude cheating' I see as a huge win/win for everyone.

Besides .. now I have sashes .. how could I not *use* them :)

I keep them in a ziploc baggie so I can fish out which ever token(s) they want to verify. I found this to be the easiest and quickest way.

Generally the only things I've been asked to show before have been figurines (sometimes), rogue items (thieves, libram, tinkering, rod), death die. But I could see being asked for obscure things like final repose, shadowskin, kvothe's, lamps, teeth.

Well .. I do a few 'noobie' runs where it is all strangers who have never played (and couldn't get tickets)
while I'm a trusting guy .. not sure I'm 'hand a total stranger $600 in tokens in a baggie' trusting :P

Not a bad idea though .. could just keep em in MY bag .. labeled .. and be the token dude.

You may want to scale it down to just some basic tokens for the noobies. Armor, weapons, etc. and play the run on Normal.

Make character builds using only rares, uncommons and commons from the current year. Hand out the baggies and then let the others know it is your gift to them.

This would probably be more economically for myself since I typically give away enhanced, rares, uncommons and commons to noobies and players who are less fortunate.

You said coaches but did you mean dm's? Coaches have a right to verify anyone token. Dm's shouldn't need to verify anything on the party card.

I would think anything that changes the rules would be good.

Stu's stein
Pouch of Tulz
Quiver of Annointment
Bowl of Spirit Sight
Bard instruments
Shield of the scholar
Figurines
Amulet of Guarding
Whatever the rogue is using to sneak attack round 1.
Anything that let's you critical something that otherwise can't be.
Anything player damage related is really on the honor system anyhow, so probably isn't that critical. Things like bloodless, lamps, etc will likely not be needed.

Maybe MEC?
Maybe teeth, since psychic power is on the party card but level is not?

That kind of thing.

Reason why I use ziploc baggies. My build has 20+ of those types of tokens.

Which is why I got myself a token wallet for this year as well. Figured it was time, plus now I won't have to carry my entire bag....

For complicated builds, something like a sash, token wallet, or token binder sheets I find to be very important.

Here is a list of, off the top of my head, tokens you may be called upon to present that could see play in a best in slot build.

All bard instruments
All consumables
All figurines (or most of them)
All weapons, especially:
+2 Rod of Persuasion
+2 Scepter of Might
+2 Staff of Power
SayLah's +2 Sundering Cestus
Stu's +3 Handy Stein
Bowl of Spirit Sight
Cabal Set for free action casting
Carter's Tome of Insight
Cloak of Shadowskin
Crown of Elemental Mastery (or the Circlet)
Dragon Tooth Amulet
Druegar's Death Die (if you die in combat)
Earcuff of Energy
Flask of Sharing
Gnomish Fizzy Lifting Pack
Greater Arcane Scroll Tube (or the other spell boosting ones)
Horn of Blasting
Ioun Stone Lavender Ellipsoid
Lenses of Divine Sight
Lenses of the Fae (of facing spectral creature)
Lenses of Sage Speed
Mad Evoker's Charm
Medallion of Greyhawk
Minotaur Horn of Alert
Pouch of Tulz
Questor's Charm of Luck (when you roll a 1)
Ring of Evasion (all versions)
Ring of Spell Storing
Shirt of the Fae

This list leaves off any damage reducing tokens, which I feel players are empowered to simply adjust on their own (although in Grind I might expect to have to show them).

There are also approximately a zillion tokens that give conditional bonuses (+3 versus entrapment versus Puddings outdoors under a full moon) that I don't worry about in my builds, and so aren't on the list above.

Greater Alchemist Pouch
Amulet of Wonder
Censor of Sacrifice
