What is PLAT?

Was this only a volunteer token or in random packages? From TokenDb I see it was year 2004 for the woodie... and 2007 "chippie?" Was volunteeer?

Thanks!

In 2004 it was a regular UR as a woodie. In 2007 it was reprinted on the new "chippie" (plastic) backs as a volunteer token, not in packs.

It wasn't in packs in its 2004 form, either.
Or it wasn't supposed to be. It was just a Volunteer token.

But I heard there was a bit of a mix-up, and some did get mixed in with the wrong treasure, and some were given out as a Completion Token at the end one dungeon, by mistake.

I'm fairly certain the 2004 Ring of Regeneration was a Volunteer Token as well. There were only two URs in 2004, this and the Ring of Three Wishes. The regular URs didn't start until 2005 in the 2005B set. As confirmation, both RoR versions are listed as Volunteer Tokens in TokenDB.

Raven, that's really interesting. Thanks for the info, I hadn't heard about that mix-up. That is a bit confusing though, as I hadn't thought there were any completion tokens until the 2006 Potion Drow Blade Venom, and that was just for the Golden Ticket Run. I don't think Completion Tokens were given out for regular runs until the Guild of Ale Drinkers and Ring of the Eye in 2007. Other than buying token packs, I thought the only way you could get tokens in 2004 was finding them in the Dungeon, but I could be mistaken.

Uh, Drow Blade Venom was definitely given out as Completion Tokens in 2006, and not just for the Golden Ticket Run.

In 2007, Guild of Ale Drinkers was a Participation Token while Ring of the Eye was a Completion Token.

To clarify, Some of the woodie Ring of Regeneration tokens got mixed into a later year's Completion/reward.
They weren't given out as Completion in 2004.

What I remember (and this is dredging through over a decade of blurry Con memories, so take with a dash of salt if needed) is this:

One year (it was in a hotel (Marriott?), and we used wooden tokens, so it was 2004-2006 range), if you completed the final room, the DM would lift a panel(?) over an altar/puzzle table/prop table, to reveal a bunch of treasure tokens underneath. They were all upside-down, and each member of the group was allowed to choose one. They were mostly random Rares, with a few URs mixed in.

But since the URs had been printed on .com backs, a smart player could identify the URs out of the mix. Thus, the URs disappeared from the mix very fast.

The DM for the room had to re-stock the treasure periodically. I don't know if there were more people completing the room than expected, or more people running on Hardcore than expected (it might have been a HardCore-only reward?) but at some point the treasure ran out unexpectedly. So the DM ran to the TD office/green room, found a box of tokens, and grabbed a large handful of them. He didn't realize he'd just grabbed a bunch of special volunteer-only tokens - he was just trying to keep his room running smoothly.

But suddenly that final rom was stocked with $100+ tokens... and word spread.

It did get caught eventually, but the damage(?) was done.

Thanks, Raven! I don't think we successfully completed that Dungeon, so that's why I never saw that bonus token draw option. That must have been 2005, because that's the year the URs had .COM backs.

Could have been 2006, too... but with URs from previous years mixed in.

It's not like they stuck to the current year's printing back in those years.

(You could buy a 10-pack from the desk and find tokens in it from 2 or 3 different years.... especially when they'd sold out of that year's supply of pre-made bags, and were making them on the fly from ?treasure generator stock.

One of my favorite things about the old wooden tokens is the amount of misprints they had, particularly getting 2005A and 2006 fronts on 2005B backs. I think I have at least three different versions of Elixir of Life with the 2005B back and two different versions with the 2006 back. :)
