Still processing the fun times had at TDC, but one thing is still bugging me...

If a player is level 6, has the Charm of Avarice and the Ioun Stone Silver Nugget, everyone in the party has a CoA or CoGF, and the party survives all 7 rooms, shouldn't their total treasure draws be 23?

Level (6) +1
CoA +13 (All 10 players have a CoA or CoGF)
ISSN +2
7 rooms +7
= 23

On a few of our runs at TDC, everyone had a CoA and we still maxed out at 19 pulls. Can anyone clarify?

No, it's 19.

You get an automatic 3 for the run, not 1 for each room.

The full scoop can be found in the Coachs guide in the resource section.

When we have all three IS, then it will be 23.

No.

You get three chips, regardless of how many rooms you survive. Not one per room.

You might be remembering the old treasure stamps, where there were three designated treasure rooms.

Although, tweaking treasure numbers so its one per room might be a good way to restore some of the sense of adventure to the game (even if our goal is to get everyone to room seven alive).

Not sure how we could implement that without raising the treasure numbers though (and I kind of already feel they're to high)

Thanks for the clarification, gang. The 3 treasure pulls vs 1 per room was the confusion. I do miss the tension created by knowing I'd get fewer treasure draws if we did not successfully complete a room.

In fact, I still vividly remember being the last man standing against Smoke and the DM telling me, "One good hit should take him out," and then totally blowing my slide. If nothing was at stake, I imagine I would have slid better. Lol!

There were reasons the stamps went away.

There were pros and cons, but I think the change was a net-positive.

I agree that on balance the change was a good one. For one thing, there would be a sizeable number of people every year that were upset because they felt they deserved a treasure stamp and didn't get one. Those bad experiences are all gone now.

Usually they were wrong. But too often they were right.

It was even worse before the HoP change. Then, a missed Treasure Stamp cost you 3 Treasure Coins. There were a lot of unhappy people back then over missed Treasure Stamps.

I disagree.

It's now much more of a "haunted house" experience where success or failure in a room doesn't even really matter. There are really no stakes involved (unless you fighting a vampire!).

One problem that seemed to go away was veterans who elbowed newbies out of the way to solve rooms and beat monsters to make sure they got their stamps

Yeah, instead they can be content to sit in a corner, hang out, and chat, not caring about the success of the party at all.

We didn't solve the puzzle? Screw it! Who cares?
