I can't think of a single relic that sells for more than the value of the bits that went into making it.

There were arguably times early on when the Ring of Heroism did as well.

Don't think it fair to count the RoH, since it was only high as GT bonuses and treasure draws, before anybody could actually make them. Once that happened, they dropped PDQ.

And yes, Charm of Health, but that was a supply problem.

Even so, that's three or four out of dozens. It's a very low percentage that hold their value, so making a new one and expecting it to go up is a big gamble, and flies in the face of historic trends. As always, YMMV

There was a guy on Reddit that trash talked True Dungeon at every opportunity. I found out that it was because he worked hard to craft a Ring of Improved Evasion only to have its value plummet after the Wertz treasure box. At least that was his perspective.

I can totally understand that perspective. I crafted a bunch of all three of those Relics, and the Wertz treasure box plus the change the next year to better/cheaper Relics made that feel like it was money down the drain, for two of the three (the Girdle of Frost Giant Strength has held up fairly well). I still appreciate the generosity of Wertz though, it was a great gesture to benefit the community.

I won't be surprised if some of the newer Relics, like Baton/Staff of Focus and the Relic Armor tokens go up in value over time. That depends of course if they are obsoleted by something even better over the next few years.

I'd hope that the next time we get relic armor it will likely be a slightly lower AC bonus with some other benefit (maybe an increase to saves). Hopefully it won't just be an increase over the current ones.

Similarly, if there is a future baton/staff that increases damage/healing, maybe it will be a slightly lower bonus but with some other benefit.

But my real hope is that we come up with other ideas entirely before we do armor or rod/staff again. We don't yet have a relic transmute for ioun stones, lenses, helms, figurines, or legs. Let's get those in the relic mix before we repeat armor or staff/rod, please.

I certainly don't begrudge anyone their awesome draws from the Wertz box, and I value the tokens for their use for my wizard, so it ddn't bother me that some tokens may have lost value b/c of it. It annoys me b/c I didn't know about it, and I drew from the other box after all of my runs.

That being said, the generosity of Jeff and Lori and the TD community has more than made up for any missed opportunities that could have been drawn that day.
