TOPIC: +1 Sai of Snaring not FoB compatible?

+1 Sai of Snaring not FoB compatible? 7 years 1 month ago #1

I was looking at the Monk weapons and found the Sai of Snaring. It's a solid weapon and a traditional martial arts weapon used in pairs. Given the Viper Strike Fangs can be used in pairs it seems like an oversight that the Sais should as well. Afterall they are traditionally used in pairs (especially to trap and disarm weapons as the Sai of Snaring indicates)

Has Jeff ever said that this is an intentional ruling?
Was this before the release of FoB compatible paired weapons?

It seems like this Monk only weapon (and any other one handed, small sized Monk only weapons) should be Flurry of Blows compatible to allow it's use in pairs.

Druegar or Jeff?

Per Jeff, +1 Sai of Snaring is not Flurry of Blows-compatible.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
Please post TDb corrections in this thread .

Bah.

Am I correct in seeing that the only option for non UR+ monk weapons is the Cestus/+1 Cestus (not counting Monk "weapon" bracers)

Correct... Why don't you count the bracers?

Because those are wrist slot items not weapons and can't be used in pairs.

Also they block the use of damage boosting bracers to use them

What? You can use them in pairs.

I just see the bracer blocking as a trade off for FoB depending on token rarity and functionality.

To the best of my understanding, at the sub-UR level (all items) then the out of print 2014 Bracers of the Asp are BiS (no +1, 7.5 avg damage). The current 2017 Adem Bracers are still excellent. Yes they consume the wrist slot as well but they give +1 to hit and average damage of 5.0 (over an empty puck). And to my understanding if you equip the bracers you get to slide two of them (not just one - or another type of bracer if you want).

At the sub-UR level the best other wrist for melee damage (to hit/damage) is Bracers of Fire/Frost/Lightning - so only +2 damage.

So you can either go open handed = zero + to hit, 1-6 damage (3.5 average damage) + 2 from an elemental bracers = 5.5.

Or +1 Adem Bracers = +1 to hit, 2-8 damage (5.0 average) = 5.0 with a +1 to hit.

At Normal/Hard Core I would take the +1 to hit/5.0 average damage over 0/5.5 average damage.

EDIT - If you factor in the Bracers of the Asp then you are at 0/7.5 (no wrist dmg bonus) = 0/7.5 and I would use those when possible (with a +1 weapon as Kent suggested).

When you start intermixing UR+ then you will naturally get different results.

How does using a pair of +1 Cestus and a Bracers of Lightning compare?

I assume they are slightly better than the +1 bracers option?

If bracer of the asp is best damage by far, you should use ONE of them, and your other weapon should be the best +to-hit weapon.*

*in dungeons they put your best stat on party card, then both weapons get that bonus. This does not work for grind as they track bonuses separately.
this is not a signature.

The +1 Cestus has +1 to hit and 3.5 average damage
The Bracers of the Asp have +0 to hit and 7.5 average damage.

2 Cestus with Bracers of Lightning will average 11 damage (5.5+5.5)
1 Cestus with Bracer of the Asp will average 11 damage (3.5 + 7.5)

Seems like 2 of the +1 Cestus with Elemental bracers is equal to Cestus/Bracers of the Asp combination
Appears to beat out the +1 Adem Bracers at 10 average damage.

Is there an option for weapon other than Cestus that could boost the damage average?

I think no?

Cestus is a weapon and as I recall 2-7 (+1 to hit, 4.5 avg dmg) and the Bracers are a wrist slot (+2 damage). If you use the both you will get +1 to hit and 6.5 avg dmg so compared to Adam (+1, 5.0) it is better but out of print and if you want out of print the Asp is better (0, 9.0).
