I am wondering if it makes sense to just have a set of these or at least the earring, ring and ioun stone to have an alternative way of getting a level instead of my ring of heroism.

They are all extremely strong if you can afford to equip them, it's definitely a good option

Some of my ioun stones are filler atm, so I could lose them. I just not sure I wanna blow another $300 on PYP at this point :-).

If you already have a good earing then I would say no because with the Charm set you still have to wear 1 ring (in your example), vs Ring of Heroism wearing 1 ring plus you get to equip any Earring and Ioun Stone.

The Charming set is good for new people playing that want to get to 5th level that don't have a Ring/Charm Heroism. The only exception is if you don't have a Charm of Heroism and you want 5th level and 2 available ring slots then you can use 3 other Charming items.

Generally the Charming set is targeted at new players.

I was just thinking about the +5 to reflex and fort saves which would help for a person with 6 in reflex currently.

I guess it doesn't make a whole lot of sense my ultimate goal is gloves of glory with Ring of focus +5, ring of focus +3 and a ring of spell storing.

It greatly depends if you have the charm necklace or bracelet for 5 or 6 charm slots and if you have a better option for the head and earring slot.

5/6 Will and psychic power in helm is nice if you have no other great options
5/6 Reflex in earcuff is really nice given the limited earcuff options
5/6 HP really depends on how much HP are a value to your class but I expect to see a moderate number of the IS being used considering how much Charm of Synergy is used and the number of available Ioun Stone slots.

Given your comments I assume you are playing Cleric, Druid or Wizard?

Correct Cleric, Helm is mostly a no go because it is either of the armor sets. Plus I have a psychic ioun already. earcuff is currently being used for obits or health, I am padding obits right now with a bunch of +1 save ioun stones so I do get a save bump but at the cost of 2 saves so net 3 save buff. I really only expect to have room for the ring for another 2 years or so then I will phase it out with focus rings. I don't see a ton of use in having a set that I am going to phase out it 2 year but I guess I could resell in 2 years.

Honestly we don't know if the Charming set will get reprinted like the Might set. If it does it's not likely to have great resale value.

If you can get a Charm of Heroism that's your best option right now. You can probably swap your Ring and $100-150 for a charm if you find someone willing.

Also remember that Eldritch 3 piece gives a level. The boots are still semi inexpensive and the first piece of the 3 year kilt comes out this year.

Much more expensive but the set also gives +10 healing...

Yeah I am getting kilts and stocking up on cash and trade stuff for things. I am also looking for tooth eldritch eventually.

I'm getting one each of the charming set pieces - it's hard to know what the future will bring but it could be good for a saves/resistance focus build by getting you the benefits of +5/6 to saves without taking up a back slot.

I could imagine a build with these, cloak of blending, and cloak of shadowskin for a highly durable / evasive character without having to invest in AC at all.

The Ioun Stone is tempting, but that's about it for me.
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir
