I also think the supply of the obsolete trade item tokens will be fairly high, from people that miss the deadline. Of course, that depends on how flexible True Dungeon will be on accepting them after the deadline.

I personally only keep tokens I will actually use (with very few exceptions). But yeah I imagine some collectors will want the "old" trade goods.

I have a transmute order ready. Until when should I wait to send it in to get the new trade tokens? February?

For game purposes they will be worthless. If new collectors join the game, they may have some meta game worth.

I would say keep only what you plan to keep in a box on your shelf. Remember, new players sometimes buy things without fully understanding the rules, if they see a "trade" token on ebay and it's not listed as "phased out trade token" which I would hope people would sell them as, they might end up spending real money on real junk (something they can put on their shelf, instead of using in their game like they wanted). Someone who doesn't know, who stepped away for a year or two will have lots of extra tokens, it'll happen. I know a guy I need to contact because he doesn't plan on playing true dungeon for a few years because babies are hard to wrangle, and if I don't I'd be a bad friend. There will be others that miss it, it's the name of gaming, you leave and come back and suddenly it's 5th edition instead of 3.5 and you're wondering why these kids are throwing dice and not getting off your lawn.

Now I'm going to be real deep, don't keep things for your personal gain at the cost of a new player to our game. Turn in your tokens now, so someone doesn't get the raw deal, and the seller screws them out of their $100. If you're really interested in keeping collectibles, grab them after the conversion and set a market base, they'll only become more worthwhile after that.

"worthwhile" is a funny term, as soon as they lose in game effectiveness they're worthless to me. I'm upset I can't turn in a silver rapier because someone had to silver it 8 years ago (10 years ago?) so it is transmuted, and treated like an ultra rare. Even ultra rares occasionally get recipes for upgrades. It is thematic for my bard though, to have something rare and weak with a story only a few people know about.

tl:dr
turn in your trade tokens, other than the one set you're going to keep on your shelf, and that second set you want to give to your first born.

On the other hand - if someone wanted to hang on to a few extra unconverted ones to try to sell/trade later as collectibles, I see nothing wrong with that as long as they were advertised as being collectibles only and not having any value for transmuting. It's possible that there will be people in a few years that might really like to get the "old format" versions for their collections. Or - they might be as worthless as Rumor and Lore tokens. :)

(Things were said)

I'm keeping one of each of the cheap eight, anyway.

Especially the poptart. Probably too cheap to hang onto gold or the other four.

Does anyone know how to go about trading old tokens for new? I plan to do some transmuting with my new 2017 tokens. Will I be able to send in my old trade tokens for replacement with a transmute order? Maybe the recipes in the store should mention an alternate option which is the old tokens.

We are trying to keep the immediate trading in of the old trade tokens to a minimum. Just use your old Trade tokens for a bit while longer so we can just naturally roll them out throughout the year. We will put this in the tokendb.com description.

In 2017, all Trade and Reserve tokens were redesigned with new high-rez artwork and chocolate-brown backs. Owners of the old, gold-backed versions can use their existing stock in transmuted recipes before December 1st, 2018. One-to-one exchanges can be done starting in September 2017. After December 1st, 2018, the old versions will no longer be honored and may not be used in transmuted recipes.

EXCEPTION: If you are coming to True Dungeon Celebration, you can exchange them there. It will be an easy process for both parties.

Thanks.

What about the gold Potion of Distilled Healing? Will those have to be traded in for the new blue ones?

AFAIK, CoA is the only transmute that has been announced as needing to be swapped out.

If gold PoDH tokens were going to expire, I'm sure the tokenDB would say so
