TOPIC: I have decided to found an Orc horde... (Purples?)

I have decided to found an Orc horde... (Purples?) 18 years 3 months ago #1

My new order arrived today, and after tallying up my collection, I have come to a firm conclusion:

I need to found an Orc horde.

Well, that or some other personal army to do my bidding. The law of averages has once again demonstrated its firm commitment to remaining in effect, and I now have exactly 27 suits of leather armor, accompanied by exactly 27 longswords. I had exactly 27 shortbows to give them ranged capability as well, but I traded one away before realizing the significance of the number 27. Oh well, the last Orc will be my standard bearer, and carry my flag in his off-hand...

Which is a really long and complicated way of saying "Hey folks, I have things to trade now!"

To see my collection, click the "View Token Collection" link in the bottom of my signature, or click here . I used a variation of Gary's collector .xls to keep things nicely organized.

What I am looking for:

- +2 Longsword*
- Ring of Protection +1
- Potion of Darkvision*
- Hourglass of Answers
- Scroll of Mage Armor
- Rumors*
- ?, ??, ??? Specials
- Anything else purple, if the deal is right

(* indicates the ones I especially want)

Item's that may be of special interest to others:

- Ring of Feather Fall - Protect yourself from dangerous cliffs, windy crevasses, creaky bridges, pits of spikes, and other dangers. Never suffer a dangerous fall again.
- Wonderous +2 Cloak - Adding to you saves, whether they be reflex, fortitude, or will, this cloak could be the difference between life and death when a trap goes off.
- Full Plate (+8 AC) - The best non-magical protection money can buy! Thick metal plates deflect all but the harshest blows.
- Wands - Melf's Acid Arrow and Magic Missile wands are available! Powerful offence, without the costly use of personal spells!
- An assortment of magic weaponry - A variety of +1 weapons, both one handed and two handed, are available.
- If you have either the +2 Longsword, I may be willing to trade my UR Gloves of Dexterity to help make that deal go through. Not my preference to do so, but knowing that many people are "purple for purple only," I'll mention the possibility. Also, I'm willing to include a +1 longsword as a part of any trade for a +2 longsword, so you aren't left out in the cold for a weapon.

Policy on GP/Gem trades:

I am ammenable to offers made in GP and Gems (especially ones I don't have), though as with any offer, I may accept or decline based on what I feel my current needs are. If you possess any of the above listed items I'm seeking and are interested in selling for GP/Gems, let me know and we can work something out. I generally try to follow the priceguide (current version is 27) with Brown, Green, and Red items. With Purple items, it's all about having both parties happy.

you might be onto something with the orc horde idea ( new game? ) i got enough tokens to equip a barbarian horde, and probably an elf clan also. hmmmm... sounds like a trading frenzy in indy. LOL

Well, I figure what I might do with all of the basic weapons and equipment, is put together "party packs" and act as a trader at Indy. Basically, I'll put together a complete collection of weapons and/or armor suitable to a full party, and trade the whole pack for one or two of the green or red draws that parties get when they start. That way, a "newbie" group, or any group going in without tokens of their own, can fully equip their party in one single trade. I might make an "armor pack" and "weapon pack" seperately, or have complete kits, dunno. Honestly, what am I going to do with that many longswords, shortbows, and armors? Not a bloody thing really, except try to help out others, so why not do it in an organized fashion?

That's not a bad idea Lionheart. I know FastJack was very helpful to groups last year (and himself based on all the purps he got!). It'd be especially cool if you could be in costume while you do it--really play the part and add to the atmosphere of the Tavern.

Bring 'em down! We'll have a genuine newbie-help-desk going on (fully in costume and in character, of course!).

I've got around 60 token bags here, and I know there are folks with a gajillion more, so it shouldn't be too hard to put together the kits. Obviously not every group will need them, and of those that do, not every group would find us. Maybe we can make a list of what you get, put a colored tie or wrap on the drawstring so we can tell what's in it without looking, and set up? I'd love for some others to get in on this too, as obviously no one person can be available all the time. Maybe we can set up shifts for this amongst ourselves?

My biggest issue as far as scheduling goes is really Saturday/Sunday. My father decided, having already been told that I was not free during Gen Con in August, to schedule his second wedding in Washington state on Saturday, August 12th. Since him telling me this, I've reminded him several times that I will be out of state, and he continues to assume, nay, inform me, that I will change my plans and come. It will end up being a none-too-merry war one of these days, when the crap finally hits the fan, but I have absolutely no intention of missing half the con, or renigging on my commitment to TD.

D'oh, quick update all!

If you've sent me an email about a trade that you are still interested in, and haven't received a reply from me, please send it again.

I just discovered today that my mail program was discarding emails from the link here as Bulk/Spam mail. I replied to the one I found today, but if you sent it previously, it probably got deleted. Sorry!

I love the idea of the "Newbie Help Desk", but there is one problem. The way the event is being set up this year, the dungeon groups will not have tavern time after they get their tokens and go to the trade shop. And I can't remember off the top of my head, but I think the "draw" will be different too.

If y'all still want to do up token packs, I can talk to Jeff and see if there's some way we can have them available in the actual trade shops. You could label them and let us know what you want it trade. And I'm sure there will also be lots of folks who buy tokens and want to get themselves set up before they actually enter the event.

J this is what I tried to do at Indy in 05. The problem is that the groups that really needed the common weapons and armor were the groups who did not buy ANY token bags (or at most 1 bag, and were not willing to give up their red or greens for anything). The token buyers seemed to fall into three groups. The groups that were united and bought 0 or 1 bags and the groups that united and bought 5-7 bags and groups that were not united.

The first type of group had needs but nothing to trade.
The second type of group did not need any commons.
The third type group did not want to outfit the party but only wanted something for their characters.

I spent many hours organizing my common token to trade at Indy 05. In the end I just gave them away to the players.

FastJack got his purples by doing trading many reds for each. His charity work with commons had nothing to do with his amazing collection. He spent the entire Con sitting in the tavern and trading (when he wasn't volunteering). He traded many reds for each of his purples. He never did tell my how many bags he purchased but I bought over 60 bags and his pile of tokens was more than twice my size.

I had heard a rumor that the armor/weapon draw was going to be upgraded slightly, to allow players a greater chance of acquiring a green or red. That way, they would have something valuable to trade with. I don't know if that is the case for sure, but it's a part of the assumption of the above idea.

If that's wholly innaccurate, I might end up as more of a charity thing too, or who knows? Token rentals? Haha. That's not too likely, probably just donating to worthy causes. Make bards sing a song in character or something. ::Grins::

Drawing of greens and reds was discussed and there was a "lively" debate on the subject a while back. ;) My personal opinion is that even if you do allow drawing of green and red armor tokens, the value of these tokens will drop significantly relative to the other tokens and so wouldn't be worth much in terms of trading.

Food for thought.
